Syntheses and structural studies of calix[4]arene-nucleoside and calix[4]arene-oligonucleotide hybrids [PDF]
We have synthesized three types of calix[4]arene-nucleoside hybrids efficiently by amide bond formation between the amine functional groups of 1,3-diamino-calix[4]arene and the carboxyl groups of thymidine nucleoside derivatives. X-Ray crystallography of a homocoupled calix[4]arene-nucleoside hybrid revealed an interesting hydrogen bonding pattern ...

The easy transformation of 5,11,17,23-tetra-tert-butyl-25,27-bis(aminoethoxy)-26,28-dihydroxycalix[4]arene (2) into 5,11,17,23-tetra-tert-butyl-26,28-dihydroxy-25,27-bis(2-isothiocyanoethoxy)calix[4]arene (3) and 5,11,17,23-tetra-tertbutyl-25,27-bis(chloroacetamidoethoxy)-26,28-dihydroxycalix[4]arene (4) has been exploited for the development of an ...

The Pinched Cone Conformation of Calix[4]arenes: Noncovalent Rigidification of the Calix[4]arene Skeleton [PDF]
Calix[4]arenes at the upper rim substituted with two (thio)urea moieties, 2a−c and 4, or substituted with two acetamido groups, 5, adopt a pinched cone conformation in CDCl3 solution.

The synthesis of metallocene calix[4]arenes
The condensation of 1,1′-bis(chlorocarbonyl)metallocenes andp-tert-butylcalix[4]arene in toluene leads to novel metallocene calix[4]arenes in which the metallocene subunit bridges the opposite hydroxy groups of the parent calixarene.

Virus‐Mediated Self‐Assembly of Functional Cyclodextrins for Antiviral Inhibition
A sialic acid (SA)‐functionalized cyclodextrin (CD) self‐assembles on SARS‐CoV‐2 through ligand–receptor recognition, nucleating cooperative supramolecular polymer growth that blocks infection. The adaptive assembly requires both ligand binding and host–guest polymerization, remains active across variants, and can be tuned by coassembly, establishing ...

A Crystalline and Thermally Stable Selenocysteine Selenenic Acid
The long‐sought catalytic intermediate of selenoproteins, selenocysteine selenenic acid (Sec–SeOH), is isolated for the first time at ambient temperature. A bioinspired selenopeptide sequence encapsulated within a protective molecular cradle and an oxidant‐free route from selenenyl iodide (Sec–SeI) enable the isolation of Sec–SeOH. Contrary to the long‐

Seven novel supramolecular photosensitizers based on benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (BTZ) tethered to calix[4]arene (C[4]) scaffolds are reported with facile, scalable, and selective syntheses. Their abilities to produce singlet oxygen have been tested through the photo‐oxidation of α‐terpinene.

syn-1,2-dialkylated calix[4]arenes : general intermediates in the NaH/DMF tetraalkylation of calix[4]arenes [PDF]
In DMF or acetonitrile with NaH as a base at room temperature the tetraalkylation of calix[4]arenes 1a and 1b proceeds via the syn-1,2-disubstituted products to the tetraalkylated calix[4]arenes in the cone conformation. With KH as a base the tetraalkylated calix[4]arenes are predominantly formed in the partial cone conformation, and the reaction ...
