A 2.5-y-old, male common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus jacchus) developed a 2-cm, interscapular, subcutaneous mass with variably firm and cystic areas. Radiographs demonstrated a radiodense mass in close proximity to a previously implanted microchip.

Arthritis of the spondyloarthropathy variety in Callithrix jacchus

Sixty skeletons of Callithrix jacchus were examined to identify spondyloarthropathy. Erosive disease in Callithrix was confirmed as spondyloarthropathy on the basis of diagnostic sacroiliac erosions, syndesmophyte formation, and the nature and distribution of the peripheral joint erosions.

The Common marmoset monkey, Callithrix jacchus jacchus, breeds more rapidly in captivity than any other primate. Because of its small size (adult body weight 400 g) it is easy to maintain in family groups in captivity, so eliminating the boredom and neuroses sometimes seen in the larger macaques and baboons that are often caged singly.

AbstractFor about 20 months the development of hand preferences in 21 experimentally naive common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) was examined in 15 different tests. Test preferences were compared with their spontaneous behavior preferences in such contexts as feeding, grooming, play, and others.
