Recovery, pathogenicity and molecular sequencing of Calonectria ilicicola which causes collar rot on Carica papaya in Australia [PDF]

open access: yesAustralasian Plant Disease Notes, 2012
Symptoms of collar rot were observed on 3-month-old papaya plants cv. RB1. The pathogen was identified as Calonectria ilicicola based on disease symptoms, fungal morphology, pathogenicity and ITS sequencing.

A simple method for long-term cryopreservation of Calonectria ilicicola on barley grains

Journal of General Plant Pathology, 2009
We developed a simple method for long-term preservation of the soybean red crown rot fungus, Calonectria ilicicola, using barley grains. Autoclaved barley grains were inoculated with the fungus, then incubated at 25°C for 1 month. After incubation, grains were dried to approximately 3% moisture content, and stored at 4, −20, or −80°C for 3 years.

Improved quantitative method for isolating Calonectria ilicicola from naturally infested soils

Journal of General Plant Pathology, 2012
We developed an improved procedure for quantitative isolation of Calonectria ilicicola from naturally infested soils. The selective medium contained 20 g l-sorbose, 4 g yeast extract, 12.5 mg flutolanil, 1.5 mg thiabendazole, 40 mg chlortetracycline hydrochloride, 10 mg chloramphenicol, 1 mL tergitol, 20 g agar, and up to 1 L with distilled water. Developing a qPCR assay for the quantification of Calonectria ilicicola in soil of soybean field

Tropical Plant Pathology, 2020
Effective quantification of Calonectria ilicicola in naturally infested soils is critical for evaluating and validating control measures for managing red crown rot disease in soybean. Counting of microsclerotia has been used to quantify this pathogen, but the method is laborious and time-consuming to process large numbers of soil samples using wet ...
