Influence of cathode materials on thermal characteristics of lithium-ion batteries

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry
In this work, the thermal stability of four types of 18,650 lithium-ion batteries with LiCoO2 (LCO), LiFePO4 (LFP), LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NCM811) and LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 (NCA) materials as cathodes are experimentally investigated by the accelerating ...

Electrochemical Isoperibolic Calorimetry for D2O Electrolysis

open access: yes, 2019
Equations developed for isoperibolic electrochemical calorimetry were tested for the electrolysis of D2O in an open calorimetric cell. The derivatives of these equations gave correct values within the experimental error range for the important rate of ...

A Super‐Adhesive Air Filter With Capillarity‐Mediated Spontaneous Particle Absorption via Dynamic Bond Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We address the inherently weak particle adhesion of conventional air filters by coating a dynamically crosslinked adhesive layer that delivers capillarity‐driven strong adhesion and particle absorption mediated by dynamic bond exchange. The resulting enhancement in particle adhesion enables efficient ultrafast (up to 20 m s−1) and omnidirectional ...

Anaerobic calorimetry of the growth of Lactobacillus helveticus using a highly sensitive bio-RCl

open access: yes
To meet the need for studies of anaerobic microbial and animal cell cultures involving much lower heat effects as compared to aerobic microbial cultures, a bench scale calorimeter, Bio-RCl, has been improved for achieving a higher long-term sensitivity ...

Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

Protolytic Reactions at Electrified TiO2 P25 Interface: Quantitative and Thermodynamic Characterization

open access: yesMolecules
Protolytic reactions on the surface of a titania photocatalyst (TiO2 P25 containing chlorine impurities) were studied using potentiometric and calorimetric acid-base titration. The impurity was removed by either washing or heat treatment.

Designing Strong, Tough, Fire‐Retardant and Self‐Healing Elastomers with Phosphorus/Nitrogen‐ and Biphenyl‐Containing Segments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
By designing a P/N‐ and π–π interacting biphenyl‐containing diol as hard segments but side groups, a strong, tough, fire‐extinguishing and self‐healing elastomer is developed, demonstrating a break strain of ∼2500%, a toughness of 379 MJ/m3 and a tensile strength of 46 MPa, as well as a healing efficiency of 95% (tensile strength) and 99% (break strain)

Steric Coordination Modulated Iodine Chemistry With Four‐Electron Conversion for Zinc‐Iodine Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐additive electrolyte strategy is developed to address the hydrolysis of I+ in the aqueous electrolytes. The steric‐hindrance effect of TES− effectively shields I+ from nucleophilic attacks by hydroxyl groups, facilitating the reversible I−/I0/I+ conversion with four‐electron transfer.
