Indole‐3‐Acetic Acid Protects Bovine Hepatocytes Against Palmitic Acid‐Induced Lipid Accumulation and ER Stress Through SIRT3

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Cows with ketosis during the perinatal period often experience damage to the liver, a core metabolic organ, thereby exacerbating the disease's inherent vicious cycle. This study indicates that serum 3‐IAA concentrations were reduced in ketotic cows and show a significant negative correlation with hepatic TG content.

Transition Between Mechanical and Geometric Controls in Glacier Crevassing Processes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Herein, fast fracture initiation in glacier ice is modeled using a Material Point Method and a simplified constitutive law describing tensile strain softening.

Theoretical stability of ice shelf basal crevasses with a vertical temperature profile

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
Basal crevasses threaten the stability of ice shelves through the potential to form rifts and calve icebergs. Furthermore, it is important to determine the dependence of crevasse stability on temperature due to large vertical temperature variations on ...

Calf management practices and associations with herd-level morbidity and mortality on beef cow-calf operations

open access: yesAnimal, 2016
The objective of this study was to investigate calf management practices on beef cow-calf operations and determine associations with herd-level morbidity and mortality of pre-weaned calves.

Improvements in Patient‐Reported Outcomes and Few Reported Major Complications Following Hip Arthroscopy in Patients With Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome: A Systematic Review

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To systematically review the literature to evaluate complications and patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) after hip arthroscopy in patients with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome. Methods Five databases were searched for studies reporting complications and PROMs after hip arthroscopy in patients with femoroacetabular impingement ...

Response of lacustrine glacier dynamics to atmospheric forcing in the Cordillera Darwin

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
Calving glaciers respond quickly to atmospheric variability through ice dynamic adjustment. Particularly, single weather extremes may cause changes in ice-flow velocity and terminus position.

Seasonal Spatial Population Density Distribution Dynamics of Lynx and Ungulate Prey in Cold‐Temperate Coniferous Forests 寒温带针叶林猞猁和有蹄类猎物种群密度空间分布的季节性动态研究

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, EarlyView.
This study used camera trap data from 6 years between 2016 and 2021 and generalized linear mixed models to explore the factors that influence the spatial density distribution of lynx and its prey populations in warm and cold seasons in Inner Mongolia Hanma National Nature Reserve, China.

Relationship between Conception Date and Latitude in Muskoxen

open access: yesRangifer, 1997
It has been suggested that muskoxen calve earlier with increasing latitude but the available data do not seem to have been thoroughly analyzed. Therefore, estimated conception dates (K=657) from a wide range of latitudes were compared.

The effects of maternal calving date and calving interval on growth performance of beef calves

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Animal Science, 2000
This study was undertaken to investigate the growth performance of calves born to dams with different calving dates and calving intervals. Early calving dams produced calves with the lowest birth weights, the highest actual weaning weights and the highest pre-breeding heifer weights.

Individual movement modeling expands the power of migratory species observations: North Atlantic right whale case study

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding a population's distribution depends on observing the presence and movement of individuals throughout their range. For highly mobile marine species, these observations typically rely on high effort monitoring programs. Tracking enough individuals to understand trends in movement behavior is not always logistically feasible, and ...
