Seasonal Variation of Calving in Murrah Buffalo in Bihar
The present study was carried out to estimate the seasonal variation of calving in Murrah buffaloes. The study was conducted in North West alluvial plain of Bihar (Chappra, Siwan and Samastipur), of India on 773 Murrah buffaloes, and these buffaloes were inseminated during June 2010 to December 2014 at BAIF's field Artificial Insemination centres which

Habitat selection of moose in Sweden in managed boreal forests with Pinus contorta and P. sylvestris
Human land use can take advantage of using exotic species to increase financial benefits. However, the use of exotic tree species might affect ecosystem functioning, potentially including the habitat use and movement behaviour of animals, modifying their ecological impact, and interactions with human land use.

Elephant space use and habitat selection change across drought timescales
Drought threatens wildlife worldwide, but little is known about wildlife behaviour during drought. This study combines 19 years of elephant GPS data with drought conditions at three timescales. Key findings include that elephants (i) move less during drought at a 1‐month timescale and (ii) change habitat selection across drought timescales.

Asian elephant population parameters were assessed using microsatellite, SNP, and sex determination DNA markers. This represents one of the first studies in mainland Asia to demonstrate that integrating microsatellite and SNP data enhances genotyping success from degraded fecal samples, increases the number of useable samples and markers, and ...

Seasonal changes of mélange thickness coincide with Greenland calving dynamics
Abstract Iceberg calving is a major contributor to Greenland’s ice mass loss. Ice mélange, tightly packed sea ice and icebergs, has been hypothesized to buttress the calving fronts. However, quantifying the mélange buttressing force from field observations remains a challenge. Here we show that such quantification

Effect of Season of Calving and Parity on Dry period and Intercalving period in interse progeny of HF X Deoni [PDF]
The data on 122 calvings from 58 interse progeny of Holstein Friesian (HF) and Deoni (D) breed for a period of 12 years were considered for the study. The data were collected from Cattle Cross Breeding Project (CCBP), Marathwada Agricultural University ...

In an unfenced mixed‐use savanna landscape in Namibia, we compared realized densities of leopards and cheetahs estimated using spatial capture–recapture models with prey‐based carrying capacity predictions. Leopard densities exceeded predictions based on wild prey alone but closely matched livestock‐supplemented models, suggesting that vulnerable ...
