Silicified Wood‐Inspired, High‐Strength Fire‐Resistant Chitin‐Based Aerogels for Sustainable High‐Temperature Thermal Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural silicified wood, a biomimetic mineralized chitin‐derived aerogel is constructed. It can withstand 81 000 times its own weight, and its backside temperature is 130.4°C after exposure to ∼1300°C butane flame for 600 s, exhibiting high‐strength, fire‐resistance, and super thermal‐insulation properties.

An Optical Tweezer Array of Ultracold Molecules

open access: yes, 2019
Arrays of single ultracold molecules promise to be a powerful platform for many applications ranging from quantum simulation to precision measurement. Here we report on the creation of an optical tweezer array of single ultracold CaF molecules.

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Exploring Pb‐Chelation Chemistry in the Crystallization Dynamics of Halide Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanism of how Pb‐chelation chemistry governs coordination geometry and initial nucleation behavior at the precursor level of halide perovskite, by regulating the deprotonation state of a chelating additive, is elucidated. This allows for innovative reaction‐system design principles that promote coherent growth while suppressing defect formation in

Expanding the toolbox for nanoparticle trapping and spectroscopy with holographic optical tweezers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We have developed a workstation based on holographic tweezers to optically trap, move and characterize metal nanoparticles. Our advanced darkfield imaging system allows us to simultaneously image and take spectra of single trapped metal nanoparticles. We

Chamber‐Specific Decellularized Extracellular Matrices Differentially Modulate Cardiomyocyte Subtypes to Drive Engineered Heart Tissue Development and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Chamber‐specific decellularized extracellular matrices (ECMs) were developed, preserving native proteomic profiles of ventricular and atrial myocardium. These innate biochemical cues differentially modulate cardiomyocyte subtypes to drive engineered heart tissue development and function, highlighting the importance of incorporating regional ECM cues in
