The Big Journey of a Giant: The Campos Basin's History

With more than 100 thousand square kilometers and representing about 58% of Brazil's oil and gas daily production in 2016, Campos Basin has proved its gigantism by producing 12 billion barrels of oil equivalent since 1977, extracted from the various concessions, like the giant fields of Marlim, Roncador and Jubarte.

Reservoir Management of the Campos Basin Brown Fields

Over the last 40 years Petrobras has developed several oilfields in the prolific Campos Basin, including giant fields such as Marlim, Roncador and Jubarte, among others. All of these giant fields produce mostly from siliciclastic turbidite reservoirs, ranging in age from Albian to Miocene, which contain medium API gravity oil (mostly 18 – 24°API).

Geology of Petroleum in Campos Basin, Brazil: ABSTRACT

A schematic model of oil generation, migration, accumulation, and alteration is presented for the Campos basin, a sedimentary province covering an area of nearly 31,000 km2 (12,000 mi2) offshore southeastern Brazil, where an estimated 1 billion m3 (6.3 billion bbl) of oil in place has been discovered since 1974.

Abstract Satellite-derived gravity anomalies were used to map the location and distribution of rift subbasins comprising the Campos and Santos Basins of the southeastern Brazilian continental margin. Free-air and crustal Bouguer gravity anomalies define several features.

In 1997 Petrobras, the national oil company of Brazil, offered the oil and gas industry 57 exploration and 92 producing opportunities for joint venture projects. After Petrobras released data, selected participants were allotted approximately two months for initial evaluation and determination of prospectivity.
