Prenatal Environmental Hypoxia Enhances Adult Hypoxia Tolerance in Brandt's Voles (Lasiopodomys brandtii): Behavioral and Transcriptomic Insights

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Prenatal hypoxia enhances adult hypoxia tolerance in Brandt's voles, preserving cognitive and memory functions. Transcriptomic analysis reveals adaptive changes in energy metabolism, oxygen transport, and neuroprotective mechanisms, highlighting developmental plasticity.

Holocene vegetation, climate and fire dynamics in the Serra dos Órgãos, Rio de Janeiro State, southeastern Brazil

open access: yesActa Palaeobotanica, 2020
We analysed pollen and macro-charcoal from a sediment core representing the last 9840 cal yr BP, collected at 2003 m a.s.l. in a patch of upper montane Atlantic Rain Forest (UMARF) embedded in a campos de altitude (high-elevation grassland) matrix in the

Aplicação de Sensoriamento Remoto na análise das mudanças da vegetação de campos de altitude no Pantanal usando dados multitemporais Landsat

open access: yesTerr Plural, 2023
Devido ao clima frio e altitude, identificar as tendências dinâmicas da vegetação e os principais fatores que contribuem para mudanças de cobertura vegetal em áreas de Campos de Altitude é essencial para entender alterações climáticas em regiões montanhosas.

Increasing concentrations of dichloromethane, CH2Cl2, inferred from CARIBIC air samples collected 1998–2012 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Atmospheric concentrations of dichloromethane, CH2Cl2, a regulated toxic air pollutant and minor contributor to stratospheric ozone depletion, were reported to have peaked around 1990 and to be declining in the early part of the 21st century.

Seasonality as a structuring factor of the dung beetle community in burned neotropical savannas

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
We tested the effects of fire, vegetation cover and seasonality on dung beetle communities, focusing on species richness, composition and co‐occurrence patterns in savannas. Fire did not affect species richness. However, seasonality was the dominant factor influencing species composition, followed by fire and vegetation cover.

A fractal pattern of hierarchical genetic population structure in mixed stocks across fish segregated by dams revealed by genomic resources for curimba Prochilodus lineatus

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Genomic resources, new microsatellite markers and a novel observation of a fractal pattern in the genetic population structure are presented for curimba, Prochilodus lineatus, a freshwater migratory model species of South America. Our main goals were to investigate the presence of mixed fish stocks and the effects of damming‐induced ...

Mammalia, Didelphimorphia and Rodentia, southwest of the province of Mendoza, Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We documented terrestrial micromammal assemblages at five localities of southwestern Mendoza province, Argentina. We added new localities for several of the most uncommon small mammal species of this region (e.g.

Hidden lineages in the African Sky Islands: A taxonomic reevaluation of Afrocarduus (Compositae)

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
Species delimitation is crucial for biodiversity studies. Using Hyb‐Seq and phylogenomics, we reassessed Afrocarduus, endemic to Afromontane and Afroalpine regions, uncovering 16 evolutionary lineages (2.3 Mya). Morphological data support their distinctiveness, with acaulescence evolving independently twice. The traditionally broad A.
