Impact of Abdominoperineal Resection on Postoperative Male Sexual Function After Minimally Invasive Rectal Cancer Surgery: A Subgroup Analysis From the LANDMARC Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Abdominoperineal resection (APR) after minimally invasive rectal cancer surgery was associated with significantly higher rates of erectile and early ejaculatory dysfunction compared with anal‐sparing surgery. Although ejaculatory function showed partial recovery over time, erectile dysfunction persisted up to 12 months postoperatively.

Impact of Biomimetic Pinna Shape Variation on Clutter Echoes: A Machine Learning Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Bats with dynamic ear structures navigate dense, echo‐rich environments, yet the echoes they receive are highly random. This study shows that machine learning can reliably detect structural signatures in these seemingly chaotic biosonar signals. The results open new directions for biologically inspired sensing, where time‐varying receiver shapes ...

The Media of Relativity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
How are fundamental constants, such as c for the speed of light, related to particular technological environments? Our understanding of the constant c and Einstein’s relativistic cosmology depended on key experiences and lessons learned in connection to ...

A Robotic Urinary Bladder Enabling Volume Monitoring and Assisted Micturition

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An implantable robotic bladder is presented that can store urine in an origami‐designed enclosure. An inductance sensing principle can monitor and transfer the urine volume in real‐time. It can actively expand based on the amount of urine collected from kidneys and apply on‐demand mechanical compression to assist urination.

Aplicación de ecuaciones reológicas para el equilibrado de canales en moldes de inyección de plástico

open access: yesCiencia & Futuro, 2017
Se desarrolló una metodología para equilibrar el llenado en moldes de inyección de plástico multicavidades utilizando ecuaciones reológicas. La metodología fue aplicada en el diseño del sistema de alimentación para el molde de dos piezas de un equipo ...

Deep Learning Methods for Assessing Time‐Variant Nonlinear Signatures in Clutter Echoes

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Motion classification from biosonar echoes in clutter presents a fundamental challenge: extracting structured information from stochastic interference. Deep learning successfully discriminates object speed and direction from bat‐inspired signals, achieving 97% accuracy with frequency‐modulated calls but only 48% with constant‐frequency tones. This work

Investigation Into the Dynamics of the Cupula in the Vestibular Organ of Adult Zebrafish Using Metabolic Glycoengineering

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The cupula is a membrane within the vestibular organ that senses rotatory accelerations of the head. Metabolic glycoengineering in combination with bioorthogonal labeling demonstrates that in adult zebrafish – being a model for the human inner ear – this membrane is constantly renewed.
