The microbiome, cancer, and cancer therapy
Nature Medicine, 2019With the advent of next-generation sequencing, we have an unprecedented ability to study tumor and host genomes as well as those of the vast array of microorganisms that exist within living organisms. Evidence now suggests that these microbes may confer susceptibility to certain cancers and may also influence response to therapeutics.

Current Opinion in Oncology, 1992
In the search for sensitive and specific tumor markers for bladder carcinoma, expression of various oncogenes and gene products (such as c-erb B-2, p53) and epidermal growth factor receptor merits particular attention. Although the results are not yet conclusive, important predictive markers are about to emerge from ongoing studies in this field ...

The idea that cigarette smoke causes lung cancer makes a strong intuitive appeal. We can readily envisage airborne carcinogens passing through the mouth, past the larynx and pharynx, down the trachea to the bronchi and lodging in the lungs. Animal experiments reveal chemical carcinogens in the condensate of cigarette smoke and no great imaginative feat

Cancer chemotherapy and biological response modifiers, 1990
In small cell lung cancer (SCLC) combination chemotherapy including agents such as etoposide, teniposide, cisplatinum, carboplatin, and vincristine, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide, or ifosfamide continues to be the back-bone of therapy. The epipodophyllotoxin derivatives together with cisplatin or carboplatin are being used increasingly as part of ...
