Faces of Experimental Pain: Transferability of Deep Learned Heat Pain Features to Electrical Pain [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The limited size of pain datasets are a challenge in developing robust deep learning models for pain recognition. Transfer learning approaches are often employed in these scenarios. In this study, we investigate whether deep learned feature representation for one type of experimentally induced pain can be transferred to another.

Histone Deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) in Ciliopathies: Emerging Insights and Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
HDAC6 regulates primary cilia, crucial for cellular signalling and environmental responses. Dysregulation of HDAC6 contributes to ciliopathies, affecting multiple organs. This review examines HDAC6's role in ciliogenesis, its interaction with signaling molecules, and its potential as a therapeutic target.

Automated facial recognition system using deep learning for pain assessment in adults with cerebral palsy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Background: Pain assessment in individuals with neurological conditions, especially those with limited self-report ability and altered facial expressions, presents challenges. Existing measures, relying on direct observation by caregivers, lack sensitivity and specificity.

Massage‐Mimicking Nanosheets Mechanically Reorganize Inter‐organelle Contacts to Restore Mitochondrial Functions in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Parkinson's disease (PD) progression is aggravated by disrupted inter‐organelle contacts, which are influenced by mechanical forces. NanoMassage, 200 nm PEGylated black phosphorus nanosheets, deliver targeted mechanical stimulation to neural cells.

An Oversampling-enhanced Multi-class Imbalanced Classification Framework for Patient Health Status Prediction Using Patient-reported Outcomes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) directly collected from cancer patients being treated with radiation therapy play a vital role in assisting clinicians in counseling patients regarding likely toxicities. Precise prediction and evaluation of symptoms or health status associated with PROs are fundamental to enhancing decision-making and planning for the ...

An Agrin–YAP/TAZ Rigidity Sensing Module Drives EGFR‐Addicted Lung Tumorigenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study identifies agrin‐EGFR mechanotransduction as a critical driver of lung adenocarcinoma which enhances EGFR signaling through an integrin‐FAK‐actomyosin dependent positive feedback on YAP/TAZ ‐TEAD in response to matrix stiffness. Targeting this oncogenic loop through combinatorial treatments inhibits lung cancer due to agrin impairment.
