Candida albicans or Candida dubliniensis?
Mycoses, 2010Candida albicans is increasing as an opportunistic pathogen causing candidemia and candidiasis worldwide. In addition, other non-albicans Candida species are now also associated with pertinent infections. These include the closely related C. dubliniensis, which shares many phenotypic similarities with C. albicans.

Candida famata (Candida flareri)
Yeast, 2012AbstractCandida famata (Candida flareri) belongs to the group of so‐called ‘flavinogenic yeasts’, capable of riboflavin oversynthesis under condition of iron starvation. Some strains of C. famata belong to the most flavinogenic organisms known and were used for industrial production of riboflavin for a long time in the USA. C.

Salivary Candida, Caries and Candida in Toothbrushes
Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry, 2012Background: Candida species are common inhabitants of the normal oral microbiota. A few studies founded a relationship between high levels of Candida albicans in the oral cavity and high DMF scores. Toothbrushes can also be reservoirs of microorganisms, the proliferation of these microorganism on a toothbrush could be a major factor for its ...

Pathogenic Candida species are detected in clinical infections. CHROMagar™ is a phenotypical method used to identify Candida species, although it has limitations, which indicates the need for more sensitive and specific techniques. Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) is an analytical vibrational technique used to identify patterns of metabolic fingerprint of

Application of CHROMagar Candida for rapid screening of clinical specimens for Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, Candida krusei, and Candida (Torulopsis) glabrata [PDF]
CHROMagar Candida is a new differential culture medium that allows selective isolation of yeasts and simultaneously identifies colonies of Candida albicans, C. tropicalis, and C. krusei. We evaluated the use of this medium with 316 yeast isolates including 247 isolated directly on CHROMagar from clinical material.

Invasive Candida infections are becoming increasingly recognized in critically ill patients. These infections result in serious morbidity, can be life threatening, and are expensive to manage. Early suspicion of Candida infection and the use of timely and proper antifungal treatment can improve outcome.
