Synonymy of Candida methylica with Candida boidinii and of Candida methanolophaga with Candida succiphila [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic Bacteriology, 1994
Some Candida species which can use methanol as a sole carbon source were studied by performing chemotaxonomic tests; we determined the ubiquinone systems of these organisms, their DNA base compositions, their electrophoretic karyotypes, and their DNA relatedness values.

Candida albicans pathogenicity mechanisms

open access: yesVirulence, 2013
The polymorphic fungus Candida albicans is a member of the normal human microbiome. In most individuals, C. albicans resides as a lifelong, harmless commensal. Under certain circumstances, however, C.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Enhanced Biomechanical Risk Assessment in Manual Lifting: Comparing Inertial Measurement Units with Optoelectronic Systems for Composite Lifting Index Calculation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study aims to improve the assessment of biomechanical risk in manual lifting tasks by introducing a method for calculating composite lifting index (CLI) using wearable inertial measurement units (IMUs). While the revised NIOSH lifting equation (RNLE)

Additional Candida albicans administration enhances the severity of dextran sulfate solution induced colitis mouse model through leaky gut-enhanced systemic inflammation and gut-dysbiosis but attenuated by Lactobacillus rhamnosus L34

open access: yesGut microbes, 2020
Candida albicans is abundant in the human gut mycobiota but this species does not colonize the mouse gastrointestinal tract. C. albicans administration in dextran-sulfate solution (DSS) induced-colitis mouse model (DSS+Candida) might resemble more to ...

Biomonitoring of Urinary Benzene Metabolite SPMA in the General Population in Central Italy

open access: yesToxics, 2018
Background: Benzene is an important component of cigarette smoke and car exhaust. Products containing benzene in concentrations greater than 0.1% are prohibited in Europe, but 1% of benzene is still allowed in gasoline.

Host‐Directed Biomaterials for Combatting Bloodstream Infections: From Macrocyclic Peptides to Immune‐Activating Cell Backpacks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

Nanobiosensor Based on Catalytic Palladium Nanoclusters and Oxidases for Bianalyte Electrochemical Determination: Glucose and Ethanol in Sweat

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A nanobiosensor for fast and simultaneous determination of sweat glucose and ethanol is presented. Deposited oxidase enzymes consume oxygen in the presence of the substrates, and co‐deposited palladium nanoclusters catalyze the electrochemical oxygen reduction, basis of the detection.

Depolymerization and Reuse of Polycarbonates: Emerging Classes, Mechanisms and Challenges

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This review collects the latest developments in the area of chemical and catalytic polycarbonate recycling strategies and includes the controlled degradation of similar types of macromolecules. Apart from the main strategies for deconstruction, the key mechanistic features of these depolymerization processes are also discussed together with the ...
