Candida Parapsilosis Keratitis

Cornea, 2003
To present clinical, microbiologic, and histopathologic features of keratitis due to Candida parapsilosis.Clinicomicrobiologic evaluation of four patients (four eyes) with culture-proven C. parapsilosis keratitis. The patients were evaluated for symptoms, visual acuity, clinical observations, microbiologic examination of corneal scrapings, and ...

Resistance of Candida parapsilosis to drugs

Biology of the Cell, 1986
Several strains of Candida parapsilosis, isolated independently in our laboratory, had their resistance compared to a series of inhibitors which act either at the level of mitochondrial ribosomes (chloramphenicol, erythromycin, paromomycin) or at the level of mitochondrial respiration and oxidative phosphorylation (oligomycin, antimycin A, diuron ...

Pancreatic Infection with Candida parapsilosis

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1999
Candida species other than C. albicans have been implicated as pathogens in intravascular (bloodstream, intravascular devices, endocarditis) and extravascular (arthritis, osteomielitis, endophtalmitis) infections. C. parapsilosis, however, is rarely implicated in intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis during peritoneal dialysis, complicating surgery ...

Bilateral Candida parapsilosis Endophthalmitis

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1997
We describe a patient with bilateral, delayed endophthalmitis who underwent bilateral pars plana vitrectomy, total capsulectomy, intraocular lens exchange, intravitreal injection of amphotericin B, and oral fluconazole therapy. The long-term inflammation resolved, and vitreous cultures from both eyes yielded Candida parapsilosis.

Immunochemical determinant of Candida parapsilosis

Carbohydrate Research, 1983
Acetolysis of Candida parapsilosis cell-wall D-mannan, obtained by alkali extraction and purified as a copper complex, gave six oligosaccharides by Bio-Gel P-2 filtration. Their chemical structure was examined by 1H-n.m.r. spectroscopy, methylation analysis, and partial acid hydrolysis. The structures of the penta- and hexa-saccharide were alpha-D-Manp-

Genomic heterogeneity in the yeast Candida parapsilosis

Current Genetics, 1993
Candida parapsilosis shows a wide intraspecies variation in chromosome/homolog size distribution. As a prerequisite for delineating modes of transmission, we have undertaken an analysis of genetic variation at different levels. In the present study we have observed that a majority of isolates display similar electrophoretic karyotype patterns ...

Candida parapsilosis Endocarditis

JAMA, 1980
ENDOCARDITIS due to bacterial and fungal pathogens is a special problem in the addict population, with more than 20% of fungal endocarditis being associated with drug addiction. 1 It has been postulated that intravenous (IV) injections of adulterated substances, such as illicit heroin, can cause fibrotic changes in cardiac valves predisposing to ...

Prosthetic knee Candida parapsilosis infection

The Journal of Arthroplasty, 1998
We report a 77-year-old man who developed Candida parapsilosis infection following total knee arthroplasty. Knee joint effusion was noted 2 weeks after surgery, and repeated cultures of aspirated fluid established the diagnosis of Candida parapsilosis infection 4 weeks after surgery.

Candida parapsilosis vertebral osteomyelitis

European Journal of Neurology, 1995
A case of culture verified Candida parapsilosis lumbar spondylodiscitis, with infectious involvement of an aortic prosthetic graft, presented with a lumbar radicular pain syndrome. Only 33 Candida infections of the spine are described in the literature. Candida parapsilosis was cultured in three cases.

The alternative oxidase of Candida parapsilosis

European Journal of Biochemistry, 1986
The yeast Candida parapsilosis is able to grow on a glycerol medium, supplemented with antimycin A, due to a secondary mitochondrial pathway, able to reoxidize specifically cytoplasmic NADH. It is antimycin‐A‐insensitive, but inhibited by salicylhydroxamic acid and high cyanide concentrations.
