An Update on Invasive Fungal Infections in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Invasive fungal infections (IFI) remain a significant infection‐related complication in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs), the incidence of which has not changed overtime. With a focus on studies and data published after 2019, this narrative review provides an update on the epidemiology and prevention of IFIs in SOTRs and highlights ...

Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Properties of Piper spp. Volatile Oils That Inhibit Pathogenic Microorganisms

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, Volume 41, Issue 4, Page 935-942, July 2026.
The samples were fungicidal against Candida, with MICs ranging from 62.5 to 250 μg/mL, and fungistatic against Penicillium adametzii, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger, with MICs of 1000 μg/mL. The volatile oils of Piper aduncum and Piper marginatum reduced the viability of MDA‐MB231 cells.

Edulitin 2, a Ribotoxin‐Like Protein From Boletus edulis That Triggers Apoptosis in Colon Cancer Cells While Preserving the Integrity of the Intestinal Microbiota

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
Edulitin 2 is a ribotoxin‐like protein exhibiting a potent antiproliferative activity towards Caco‐2 and HT29 cells by programmed cell death. However, edulitin 2 does not affect gut microbiota growth, despite damaging fungal ribosomes. ABSTRACT Porcini (Boletus edulis Bull.) are a reservoir of pharmacological biomolecules with health‐promoting ...

Candida parapsilosis complex

open access: yes, 2022
History. C. parapsilosis complex was first isolated by Ashford (1928) from the feces of a Puerto Rican patient with diarrhea, as a species of Monilia parapsilosis that was incapable of fermenting maltose and therefore reclassified as Candida parapsilosis by Langeron and Talice (1932). Ecology and Epidemiology. C.

Swine abortion caused by Candida parapsilosis.

open access: yesThe Journal of veterinary medical science, 2021
In July 2020, a sow in a breeding herd in the Chiba Prefecture, Japan, suffered abortion. A necropsy revealed pale pulmonary foci scattered in the two fetuses. Histologically, multifocal pulmonary necrosis was detected with numerous yeasts. The yeast was positively stained using the periodic acid-Schiff reaction and Grocott's silver stain.

Exploring the Antifungal Potential of the Brown Macroalga Hormophysa triquetra: Morphological Disruptions and Structural Changes in Plant Pathogens

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Extracts of Hormophysa triquetra showed antifungal activity with marked hyphal deformities in Fusarium oxysporum and Alternaria alternata. Light microscopy and SEM confirmed structural alterations despite unchanged radial growth. Cucumber assays validated reduced disease incidence, linked to fatty‐acid–rich metabolites detected by GC–MS.

Efficacy Evaluation of Luliconazole‐Loaded Nanostructured Lipid Carriers in Treatment‐Resistant Dermatophytosis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 69, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Dermatophytosis is a common superficial fungal infection that is increasingly complicated by terbinafine (TRB)‐resistant strains, especially Trichophyton indotineae. Conventional antifungals often show limited efficacy against resistant isolates, highlighting the need for novel treatments.

Application of Metagenomic Next‐Generation Sequencing in the Diagnosis of Pneumonia in Patients With Cancer

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background With the development of new sequencing technologies, metagenomic next‐generation sequencing (mNGS) has become a diagnostic tool for respiratory tract infections. Patients with cancer may develop pneumonia caused by infections or antitumor therapy.

Pastinaca sativa L.: Nutritional Composition, Phytochemistry, and Pharmacological Properties Supporting Its Potential as a Functional Food and Therapeutic Agent

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
Food‐grade processing of Pastinaca sativa (parsnip) converts a nutrient‐rich plant matrix (dietary fiber, fructans, phenolics) through washing/slicing/enzymatic treatment and ingredient preparation into functional food ingredients, including fiber concentrates, antioxidant‐rich fractions, and parsnip powders/extracts.
