Oral vaccination of dogs fed canine adenovirus in baits
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1989SUMMARY Six groups of 5 dogs each were fed dilutions of canine adenovirus-2, either as raw liquid or after insertion into cornmeal baits. By the fourth week after vaccination, 29 of the 30 dogs developed high titers of serum-neutralizing antibodies to the virus.

Immunohistochemical Detection of Canine Adenovirus in Paraffin Sections of Liver
Veterinary Pathology, 1986An avidin-biotin immunoperoxidase procedure was optimized for detection of canine adenoviral antigens in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded liver. Long-term stability of viral antigen was shown by successful demonstration of virus in liver tissue preserved up to six years from dogs with infectious canine hepatitis.

Genotypic characterization of type-2 variants of canine adenovirus
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1986SUMMARY Two canine adenovirus (cav) isolates, apparently distinct from type-1 (Utrecht) and type-2 (Toronto A26/61) reference strains in their biochemical and/or immunologic properties, were submitted to DNA-restriction endonuclease analysis. Both isolates, designated IAF-81-2116 and IAF-75-95, appeared as genotypic variants of cav-2.

SUMMARY A modified live strain of canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2) was developed and evaluated as a replacement for infectious canine hepatitis (canine adenovirus type 1; CAV-1) vaccines. In a genetic stability test, the vaccine strain remained nonpathogenic through five back passages in dogs and when given by the intranasal route.

Sequence analysis of the canine adenovirus 2 fiber-encoding gene
Gene, 1995The gene coding for the fiber protein (Fip) of canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2) has been cloned and sequenced. The putative protein has 80% sequence similarity with the CAV-1 Fip. The observed differences may contribute to the known differences in cell tropism and virulence of the two types of CAV.
