First Identification of Canine Distemper Virus in Hoary Fox (Lycalopex vetulus): Pathologic Aspects and Virus Phylogeny

open access: yes, 2010
Canine distemper virus (CDV) has been reported in several wild animal species, but there have been no reports of CDV in hoary fox (Lycalopex vetulus). This paper characterizes the first case of natural CDV infection in hoary fox, including the clinical ...

Integrative Analysis of Dog Serum‐Derived CircRNA Expression and Disease Severity, Inflammatory and Cardiac Damage Biomarkers Related to Canine Parvoviral Enteritis

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 3, May 2025.
Novel circRNA‐based biomarkers for inflammation, disease severity and cardiac damage were discovered in dogs with canine parvoviral enteritis. The obtained circRNAs participated in the entire CPV infection process, exhibited substantial links with infection occurrence and progression and have the potential to regulate infection pathogenesis.

The Nucleoside Analog GS-441524 Effectively Attenuates the In Vitro Replication of Multiple Lineages of Circulating Canine Distemper Viruses Isolated from Wild North American Carnivores

open access: yesViruses
Canine distemper is a severe and lethal viral disease of dogs and wild carnivores with an urgent need for the identification of effective antiviral agents against canine distemper virus (CDV).

A Severe Clinical Case of Ehrlichia canis and Toxoplasma gondii in a Dog (With the First Morphological Detection of Tachyzoites in Peripheral Blood)

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 3, May 2025.
Vector‐borne pathogens (VBPs) are frequently identified in domestic dogs, particularly in endemic areas or in individuals lacking protection from anti‐feeding products. Diagnostic procedures in veterinary clinics for symptomatic animals primarily include rapid serological assays; however, more definitive, albeit time‐intensive tests typically require ...

Cross-species transmission of canine distemper virus—an update

open access: yesOne Health, 2015
Canine distemper virus (CDV) is a pantropic morbillivirus with a worldwide distribution, which causes fatal disease in dogs. Affected animals develop dyspnea, diarrhea, neurological signs and profound immunosuppression. Systemic CDV infection, resembling

Epidemiology of canine distemper in Makurdi, Nigeria

open access: yes, 2018
Canine distemper (CD), a major disease of dogs all over the world, hitherto controlled by extensive vaccination of dogs around the world, appears to be persisting and even re-emerging in many parts of the world.

Emergence of Canine Distemper Virus Strains With Modified Molecular Signature and Enhanced Neuronal Tropism Leading to High Mortality in Wild Carnivores

open access: yes, 2012
An ongoing canine distemper epidemic was first detected in Switzerland in the spring of 2009. Compared to previous local canine distemper outbreaks, it was characterized by unusually high morbidity and mortality, rapid spread over the country, and ...

Canine distemper, a re-emerging morbillivirus with complex neuropathogenic mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Paramyxoviruses are responsible for a wide variety of diseases both in humans and in animals. Common to many paramyxoviruses is the fact that they can cause neurological symptoms in their final host.
