Exploring the connection between canker lesions and inflammatory cytokines: Implications for treatment and diagnosis

open access: yesRegulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems
Canker lesions are painful ulcerations affecting the oral mucosa, often linked to immune dysregulation. The aim of the study is investigate the relationship between canker lesions and inflammatory cytokines, exploring their potential role in disease progression.

Effective control of Leptosphaeria maculans increases importance of L. biglobosa as a cause of phoma stem canker epidemics on oilseed rape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
BACKGROUND: Phoma stem canker is a damaging disease of oilseed rape caused by two related fungal species, Leptosphaeria maculans and L. biglobosa. However, previous work has mainly focused on L. maculans and there has been little work on L.

Contribution of Sucrose Metabolism in Phloem to Kiwifruit Bacterial Canker Resistance

open access: yesPlants, 2023
Kiwifruit bacterial canker, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa), is a catastrophic disease affecting kiwifruit worldwide. As no effective cure has been developed, planting Psa-resistant cultivars is the best way to avoid bacterial canker ...

Genetic Architecture of Southern Stem Canker Resistance in Elite Southern Soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) Germplasm

open access: yesPlant Breeding, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Southern stem canker (SSC), caused by the fungus Diaporthe aspalathi, is one of the major constraints to soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) production in the southern United States and South America. Genetic resistance is the most effective strategy for managing SSC; however, the genetic architecture underlying resistance in elite southern ...

Formation of canker lesions on stems and black scurf on tubers in experimentally inoculated potato plants by isolates of AG2-1, AG3 and AG5 of Rhizoctonia solani: a pilot study and literature review

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 2008
Development of black scurf on potato tubers (cv. Nicola) was compared in plants inoculated with isolates of Rhizoctonia solani of three anastomosis groups (AG2-1, AG3 and AG5) which occur in potato crops in Finland. All isolates induced stem canker lesions but only isolates of AG3 formed efficiently black scurf on progeny tubers.

Citrus Canker Management for 2017

open access: yesEDIS, 2017
The citrus canker season is quickly approaching again, so it is time to start planning your canker management plan.  It is easy to forget the importance of controlling citrus canker with the current state of HLB in Florida.

Clarification of the infection pattern of Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri on citrus fruit by artificial inoculation

open access: yesPlant Methods
Background Citrus canker is a significant bacterial disease caused by Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc) that severely impedes the healthy development of the citrus industry.

Pinus‐derived membrane vesicles disrupt pathogenic metabolism in fungi

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Needle‐derived vesicles from pine trees impair fungal metabolism and growth, offering a sustainable strategy to control pine pitch canker disease. Abstract Much of what we know about the biological impacts of vesicles (MVs) is derived from Arabidopsis thaliana.

Resistance to Leptosphaeria maculans (phoma stem canker) in Brassica napus (oilseed rape) induced by L. biglobosa and chemical defence activators in field and controlled environments

open access: yes, 2006
Effects of pretreatment of Brassica napus leaves with ascospores of Leptosphaeria biglobosa or chemical defence activators [acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) or menadione sodium bisulphite (MSB)] on infection by ascospores of Leptosphaeria maculans (phoma stem ...
