Biomechanical comparisons of F.E.R.I. techniques with different type of intramedullary screws fixation for Jones fractures

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
Introduction: Jones fractures frequently fail to unite, and adequate fixation stability is crucial. This study aimed to elucidate the biomechanical stability of various intramedullary screw fixation constructs. Methods: Jones fracture model over the ...

Humeral Head Bone Grafting of a Large Off‐Track Hill‐Sachs Lesion Using Femoral Condyle Osteochondral Allograft Through a Percutaneous Posterior Approach

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Hill‐Sachs lesions (HSLs) are commonly associated with anterior shoulder instability with or without glenoid bone defects. Treatment decision mainly depends on the size and location of the defect on the humeral head. Osteochondral allograft transplantation has been described for the treatment of large off‐track HSLs.

A Screw Length of 14 mm Is Sufficient to Avoid the Physis During Juvenile Osteochondritis Dissecans Lesion Repair but This Can Vary Based on Age and Region of the Distal Femur

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2025.
Purpose To determine the safest screw length that will avoid penetrating the femoral physis for surgical fixation of juvenile osteochondritis dissecans lesions and to compare the safe screw lengths for different regions in the condyles. Methods After institutional review board approval, we retrospectively reviewed T1‐weighted magnetic resonance images ...

A biomechanical study of headless compression screws versus a locking plate in radial head fracture fixation

open access: yes, 2019
Hypothesis: Fixation of a 3-part radial head fracture with cannulated compression screws will show equivalent stiffness to a locking plate under axial load. Debate exists regarding the management of Mason type III fractures, with many believing that open

Biomechanical Analysis and Solution Suggestions of Screw Replacement Scenarios in Femoral Neck Fracture Surgeries: Finite Element Method

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 614-623, February 2025.
Despite several surgical options, there has yet to be a consensus on the best treatment for femoral neck fracture (FNF) due to higher complication rates compared to other bone fractures. This study aims to examine the possible consequences and solution suggestions of changing screws during surgery for various reasons in FNF surgical treatment from a ...

Optimizing Subtalar Arthrodesis: A Human Cadaveric Evaluation of a Novel Partially-Threaded Screw Combination in the Delta Configuration

open access: yesMedicina
Background and Objectives: Despite the established role of subtalar joint arthrodesis (SJA) for treatment of subtalar osteoarthritis, achieving bone union remains challenging, with up to 46% non-union rates.

Removal of a Distally Broken Cannulated Femur Intramedullary Nail: A Novel Technique From a Level 1 Trauma Center

open access: yesCase Reports in Orthopedics, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This case report from a Level 1 trauma center describes a novel surgical technique to remove a cannulated intramedullary nail, broken at the distal aspect, from the femur. We present a 40‐year‐old male who sustained a hardware failure, breaking his medullary nail at the distal aspect 7 weeks postoperatively while performing water aerobics.

All‐Inside Arthroscopic Anatomic Anterior Talofibular Ligament Repair for Chronic Lateral Ankle Instability and Injury at the Talar Attachment: Surgical Technique

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, Volume 13, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract Recently, arthroscopic anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) repair has become popular, and favorable outcomes have been reported. In general, ATFL injuries are often caused by fibular attachment, and there are no reports of arthroscopic ligament repair of talar attachment injuries.
