Shrub canopy interception of diaspores dispersed by wind

Seed Science Research, 2020
AbstractInterception by plant canopies during wind dispersal can affect the final destination of diaspores. However, how the interaction of wind speed, canopy type and diaspore attributes affects interception of diaspores by the plant canopy has rarely been studied.

Canopy Structure, Light Interception, and Photosynthesis in Maize

Agronomy Journal, 2003
The amount and distribution of leaf area and leaf angles in a crop canopy determine how photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) is intercepted and consequently influences canopy photosynthesis and yield. Factors such as plant shape, plant populations, and row width will affect these leaf distributions and can occur in an almost infinite number of ...

Terrestrial laser scanning‐derived canopy interception index for predicting rainfall interception

Ecohydrology, 2020
AbstractRainfall interception (RI) by forest canopies is an important process in hydrological cycling in forest ecosystems. However, accurately predicting RI is a challenging topic. In this study, a dimensionless descriptor, canopy interception index (CII), for predicting RI was defined.

Three dimensional model of the interception of light by a canopy

Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 1998
Abstract We present a computer model that simulates, in three dimensions, the interception of light by a canopy. The model divides the canopy into cubic cells, each one characterized by mean leaf angle and the leaf area index. The model calculates the probability that a beam will penetrate to any given cell without being intercepted by the foliage in

An enhanced rainfall–runoff model with coupled canopy interception

Hydrological Processes, 2020
AbstractThe translation of rainfall to runoff is significantly affected by canopy interception. Therefore, a realistic representation of the role played by vegetation cover when modelling the rainfall–runoff system is essential for predicting water, sediment, and nutrient transport on hillslopes.

A rainfall interception model for inhomogeneous forest canopy

Frontiers of Forestry in China, 2008
The process of rainfall interception by an inhomogeneous forest canopy composed of tree crowns with some gaps among them were considered, and the previous theoretical models of rainfall interception were modified to model an inhomogeneous canopy instead of a statistically homogeneous canopy. The paper deals with the following.

Modelling and measurement of radiation interception by olive canopies

Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 2000
We present the formulation, calibration and validation of a model to estimate photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) intercepted by olive (Olea europaeaL.) canopies. The model calculates the PAR transmittance at any point located within the four central trees of the orchard.

A theoretical analysis of radiation interception in a two-species plant canopy

Mathematical Biosciences, 1991
Classical radiation interception laws for monospecific canopies cannot be used directly for bispecific canopies. They are always based on the gap frequency concept (i.e., the probability of no interception), which does not provide any information about the sharing of intercepted radiation between species. A theoretical analysis is reported that relates

Relation of shape of canopy to interception of radiation and yield of wheat

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1981
SUMMARYField experiments were made at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, during 1974–5 to 1978–9 to study the possibility of improving wheat yield by more efficient use of radiant energy through modification of the shape of the canopy under varying levels of fertilizers, irrigation and seed rates.

Effects of plant canopy structure on light interception and photosynthesis

Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 1994
Abstract A set of different plant canopies with vertically different and horizontally clumped leaf areal density was generated on a mainframe computer. Three-dimensional transfer of direct light in these canopies was numerically calculated and the irradiance of light on inclined leaf surfaces was predicted.
