eIF3d is an mRNA cap-binding protein required for specialized translation initiation

open access: yesNature, 2016
Eukaryotic mRNAs contain a 5′ cap structure that is crucial for recruitment of the translation machinery and initiation of protein synthesis. mRNA recognition is thought to require direct interactions between eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) and ...

Scalar Curvature and Projective Compactness

open access: yes, 2015
Consider a manifold with boundary, and such that the interior is equipped with a pseudo-Riemannian metric. We prove that, under mild asymptotic non-vanishing conditions on the scalar curvature, if the Levi-Civita connection of the interior does not ...

3D spherical-cap fitting procedure for (truncated) sessile nano- and micro-droplets & -bubbles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In the study of nanobubbles, nanodroplets or nanolenses immobilised on a substrate, a cross-section of a spherical-cap is widely applied to extract geometrical information from atomic force microscopy (AFM) topographic images.

Changes in Body Composition in Children and Young People Undergoing Treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ongoing evidence indicates increased risk of sarcopenic obesity among children and young people (CYP) with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), often beginning early in treatment, persisting into survivorship. This review evaluates current literature on body composition in CYP with ALL during and after treatment.

Two constructions with parabolic geometries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This is an expanded version of a series of lectures delivered at the 25th Winter School ``Geometry and Physics'' in Srni. After a short introduction to Cartan geometries and parabolic geometries, we give a detailed description of the equivalence ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Use of a controlled attenuation parameter for the diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

open access: yesТерапевтический архив, 2023
Aim. To evaluate the efficacy of vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE) with a controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) in a population of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)and to compare to US and different non-invasive ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
