Six Sigma-Based Frequency Response Analysis for Power Transformer Winding Deformation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Winding deformities in distribution transformers pose significant risks to operational reliability and system safety. Frequency response analysis (FRA) is a well-established technique for identifying mechanical faults; however, its diagnostic reliability

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Parametric inference of the process capability index

open access: yes, 2021
Process capability indices (PCIs) are most effective devices/techniques used in industries for determining the quality of products and performance of manufacturing processes. In this article, we consider the PCI Cpc which is based on the proportion of conformance and is applicable to normally as well as non-normally and continuous as well as discrete ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A dynamic operationalization of Sen's capability approach [PDF]

open access: yes
The limits of the utilitarian approach have led to a search for different notions of welfare. The income approach to well-being, in fact, doesn’t account for the diversity in human beings and for the heterogeneities of contingent circumstances.

Acute Multidimensional Poverty: A New Index for Developing Countries [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents a new Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) for 104 developing countries. It is the first time multidimensional poverty is estimated using micro datasets (household surveys) for such a large number of countries which cover about 78 ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Variable selection for the single index model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We consider variable selection in the single-index model. We prove that the popular leave-m-out crossvalidation method has different behaviour in the single-index model from that in linear regression models or nonparametric regression models.
