Improving the performance of piezoresistive force sensors by modeling sensor capacitance
2010 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2010Piezoresistive force sensors exhibit considerable lower accuracy compared with load cells and force measuring systems based in strain gauges, however a new method for measuring forces using piezoresistive sensors is described in this paper, leading to a considerable increase in the repeatability of force readings.

Micromechanical Capacitive Acceleration Sensor with Force Compensation
1990A micromechanical acceleration sensor consisting of a differential capacitor has been developed. The seismic mass is etched in silicon forming simultaneously the middle electrode and is suspended on 8 cantilever beams consisting of highly boron doped silicon. The mass is embedded in a glass-siliconglass-sandwich between the counter electrodes which are

A prototype force sensing unit for a capacitive-type force-torque sensor
2014 IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration, 2014Force sensing is a crucial task for robots, especially when the end effectors such as fingers and hands need to interact with an unknown environment, for example in a humanoid robot. In order to sense such forces, a force/torque sensor is an essential component.

Multimodal Capacitive and Piezoresistive Sensor for Simultaneous Measurement of Multiple Forces
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2020Quantitative information on the magnitudes and directions of multiple contacting forces is crucial for a wide range of applications including human-robot interaction, prosthetics, and bionic hands. Herein we report a highly stretchable sensor integrating capacitive and piezoresistive mechanisms that can simultaneously determine multiple forces.

Electrostatic forces and their effects on capacitive mechanical sensors
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1996Abstract This paper describes the electrostatic forces developed between the plates of capacitive mechanical sensors built in crystalline silicon and their effects on the measurement and the fabrication process. In single capaciti sensors the electrical forces can introduce offset errors in the measuring process, or can cause the collapse of the ...
