A High-Accuracy Capacitance-to-Voltage Converter for Capacitive Sensors

2020 IEEE 11th Latin American Symposium on Circuits & Systems (LASCAS), 2020
A switched-capacitor (SC) capacitance-to-time (C/T) converter used for differential capacitive sensors with improved accuracy is presented in this paper. Using three rather than two time intervals, the circuit can remove the influences of the propagation delay of the comparator the channel charge injection and clock feedthrough due to analog switches ...

Determination of the theoretical capacitance of a concave capacitance sensor

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1979
The practical use of four concave capacitance plates for determining in situ volume fractions in two-phase pipelines has been amply demonstrated. In this letter, the system is analyzed theoretically using a microstrip technique and the results are compared with experimental data.

Unique and Unclonable Capacitive Sensors

IEEE Sensors Journal, 2018
Inspired from nature, a new concept called 'sensors with unique and unclonable characteristic', has been developed. Such sensors respond to a measurand and provide a unique output. Random variations in the structure of the sensors are responsible for these unique characteristic.

A Smart Capacitive Angle Sensor

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2005
This paper presents a smart capacitive angle sensor suited for automotive and industrial use. To comply with tough constraints of such applications in terms of environmental conditions, unit costs, and physical size, a fully integrated solution is mandatory.

An accurate interface for capacitive sensors

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2002
A new smart interface based on a first-order charge-balanced SC-oscillator is presented for capacitive sensors, which are shunted by a parasitic conductance. In the novel interface, the effect of shunting conductance is reduced by using the charge/discharge method.

Capacitive touch sensor

Microelectronics International, 2018
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse the possibilities of mechanical switch replacement by capacitive film touch sensor in applications requiring high reliability and short response time. Advantage of replacing mechanical switch by capacitive touch sensor is no mechanical wear and possible implementation of sensor in application where the ...

Capacitance sensor for microimaging

SPIE Proceedings, 2001
The ultimate aim of the work described here is to explore miniaturised electrical tomography systems. The initial target, described in this paper, has been to implement a sensor, integrated on silicon, and able to detect particles as small as 10 pm in diameter from changes in capacitance.

Elastomeric capacitive sensors

2011 16th International Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems Conference, 2011
Elastomers are emerging as an alternative to inorganic materials for electromechanical transducers. The rubber-like polymers are characterized by high elasticity (their equivalent elastic modulus is typically 2 orders of magnitude lower than that of silicon) and high yield strain (>100%).

Capacitive Angular-Position Sensor

2007
This paper describes the design, realization and experimental characterization of a capacitive angular position sensor. The sensor is composed of two parts, namely the sensing element and the dedicated signal conditioning electronic circuit. The sensor is based on a low-cost Printed Circuit Board technology for the electrodes, and the use of a thick ...

Capacitance Humidity Sensor

MRS Proceedings, 1995
ABSTRACTA capacitance relative humidity (RH) sensor is described that has a design, construction, and material composition that result in an inexpensive and robust sensor. This sensor has a multilayer, free-standing film construction. It consists of a humidity sensitive polyimide (PI) dielectric core and conductive layers consisting of carbon filled ...
