Capacitor voltage balancing in modular multilevel converters
6th IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2012), 2012A universal capacitor voltage control method for converters built from series connected modules is presented. It fully exploits both the circulating currents and the common-mode voltage without affecting the phase current control. The controllability of the capacitor voltages in various such converters is investigated.

Capacitor Voltage Balance on NPC Multilevel Converter
2019 International Aegean Conference on Electrical Machines and Power Electronics (ACEMP) & 2019 International Conference on Optimization of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (OPTIM), 2019In this paper, a modulation strategy is formulated to be integrated in the model of a 5-level AC-DC converter. The resulting formulation is able to deals with the unbalance voltage problem generated in the dc-link. Such modulation strategy can be calculated offline and the solution can be stored as a multidimensional array for its use during the online

Capacitor voltage balancing in modular multilevel inverters
2014 International Electrical Engineering Congress (iEECON), 2014This paper presents implementation of an universal modulation scheme on an proposed modular multilevel inverter for achieving charge balancing of the capacitors. Modulation is done by using sinusoidal pulse width modulation. Simulations are provided to prove the conclusion of the scheme.

2007 IEEE Industry Applications Annual Meeting, 2007
This paper presents a new strategy for the analytical determination of the natural voltage balancing dynamics of three-phase flying capacitor converters. The approach substitutes double Fourier series representations of the pulsewidth modulation switching signals into a nonlinear transient circuit model of the three-phase converter.

A generalized capacitor voltage balancing scheme for flying capacitor multilevel converters
2010 Twenty-Fifth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2010Multilevel power electronic converters are the converter of choice in medium-voltage applications due to their reduced switch voltage stress, better harmonic performance, and lower switching losses. Although it has received little attention, the flying-capacitor multilevel converter has a distinct advantage in terms of its ease of capacitor voltage ...

A resonant switched-capacitor converter for voltage balancing of series-connected capacitors
2009 International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (PEDS), 2009This paper describes a resonant switched-capacitor converter (RSCC) for voltage balancing of several capacitor or battery modules connected in series. This voltage balancing circuit transfers electric charge between the capacitor modules with a soft switching operation, resulting in a reduction of power loss and EMI.

New Nine-Level Inverter with Self Balancing of Capacitors Voltages
IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018In this paper, authors propose a hysteresis controller insuring the self balancing of the capacitors voltages without using any voltage sensor. Capacitors voltages of the fifteen-level PUC inverter have to be maintained around their references using a state variable feedback which requires three sensors, two for the capacitors voltages and one for the ...

Novel capacitor voltage balancing algorithm for modular multilevel converter
IECON 2014 - 40th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2014In this paper is presented a novel capacitor voltage balancing algorithm for Modular Multilevel Converter. The problem in the Modular Multilevel Converter is that the DC-BUS voltage doesn't distribute equally between the capacitors producing voltages unbalances.
