Capacitor Voltage-Balancing Techniques for a Multipulse Rectifier With Active Injection

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2009
Two techniques are presented to balance the filter capacitor voltages of a multi-pulse rectifier with active injection operating on a variable frequency supply. The active injector consists of a low-rated, bidirectional switch that modifies the behaviour of a 12-pulse rectifier at either low or high-frequency , resulting in 24-pulse or multi-level PWM ...

Active Capacitor Voltage Balancing in Single-Phase Flying-Capacitor Multilevel Power Converters

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2012
Two active capacitor voltage balancing schemes are proposed for single-phase (H-bridge) flying-capacitor multilevel converters. They are based on the circuit equations of flying-capacitor converters. Consequently, they can be implemented using straightforward control rules.

Method of identifying voltage difference of super capacitors and principle of voltage balancing

2007 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2007
In this paper, the method of identifying voltage difference of super capacitors and the principle of voltage balancing are presented. They are evaluated, according to the tolerance of the capacitance difference, the nature of self-discharging feature and the feasibility of the real implementation. The results show, much energy can be available if lower

Capacitor Voltage Balancing in Multi-Level Voltage Reinjection (MLVR) Converters

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2005
In common with conventional multi-level conversion configurations, the multi-level voltage reinjection scheme uses multi-level clamping and dc series connected capacitors. The operation conditions that lead to capacitor voltage unbalance are analyzed and the use of adaptive adjustment of the clamping switches conducting periods is investigated.

Capacitor Voltage-Balancing Control for Flying-Capacitor MMC without Current Sensors

2020 IEEE 9th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC2020-ECCE Asia), 2020
This paper proposes a submodule (SM) capacitor voltage balancing control scheme for the flying-capacitor modular multilevel converter (FC-MMC), where current sensors are not used. From the SM capacitor voltages and the half-arm insertion index, the DC and AC circulating currents are estimated, instead of measurement.

Capacitor voltage balancing in a 5-L full-bridge flying capacitor inverter

2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP), 2017
An active control method to balance the flying capacitor's voltage is presented for a single-phase full-bridge flying capacitor inverter. Based on the equations of flying capacitors, an analytical method that represents the natural capacitor's voltage balancing is introduced.

A Space Vector Modulation approach for capacitor voltage balancing of Flying Capacitor Converters

2011 Twenty-Sixth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2011
The capacitor voltage balancing is the main technical challenge of a multi-level Flying Capacitor Converter (FCC). This paper proposes a Space Vector Modulation (SVM)-based voltage balancing strategy that takes the advantage of redundant switching states of an n-level FCC to counteract the voltage drift/imbalance.

Capacitor Voltage Balancing of Flying Capacitor Multilevel Converters by Space Vector PWM

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2012
Proper operation of a multilevel flying capacitor converter (FCC) necessitates a closed-loop voltage balancing strategy. This paper proposes a space vector modulation (SVM)-based approach that benefits from the switching state redundancy of an n-level FCC to implicitly carry out the voltage balancing task within the switching strategy.
