2007 IEEE Industry Applications Annual Meeting, 2007
This paper presents a new strategy for the analytical determination of the natural voltage balancing dynamics of three-phase flying capacitor converters. The approach substitutes double Fourier series representations of the pulsewidth modulation switching signals into a nonlinear transient circuit model of the three-phase converter.

A generalized capacitor voltage balancing scheme for flying capacitor multilevel converters
2010 Twenty-Fifth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2010Multilevel power electronic converters are the converter of choice in medium-voltage applications due to their reduced switch voltage stress, better harmonic performance, and lower switching losses. Although it has received little attention, the flying-capacitor multilevel converter has a distinct advantage in terms of its ease of capacitor voltage ...

A resonant switched-capacitor converter for voltage balancing of series-connected capacitors
2009 International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (PEDS), 2009This paper describes a resonant switched-capacitor converter (RSCC) for voltage balancing of several capacitor or battery modules connected in series. This voltage balancing circuit transfers electric charge between the capacitor modules with a soft switching operation, resulting in a reduction of power loss and EMI.

New Nine-Level Inverter with Self Balancing of Capacitors Voltages
IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018In this paper, authors propose a hysteresis controller insuring the self balancing of the capacitors voltages without using any voltage sensor. Capacitors voltages of the fifteen-level PUC inverter have to be maintained around their references using a state variable feedback which requires three sensors, two for the capacitors voltages and one for the ...

The Capacitor Voltage Balancing of Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter
2019 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics (ICM), 2019The enhancing of the energy efficiency of the distribution AC systems under operating conditions within the framework of a FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System). The concept is based on the using various types of power electronic controllers. In case of medium voltage applications most of the FACTS controllers are implemented on the multilevel ...

Capacitor Voltage-Balancing Techniques for a Multipulse Rectifier With Active Injection
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2009Two techniques are presented to balance the filter capacitor voltages of a multi-pulse rectifier with active injection operating on a variable frequency supply. The active injector consists of a low-rated, bidirectional switch that modifies the behaviour of a 12-pulse rectifier at either low or high-frequency , resulting in 24-pulse or multi-level PWM ...

Novel capacitor voltage balancing algorithm for modular multilevel converter
IECON 2014 - 40th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2014In this paper is presented a novel capacitor voltage balancing algorithm for Modular Multilevel Converter. The problem in the Modular Multilevel Converter is that the DC-BUS voltage doesn't distribute equally between the capacitors producing voltages unbalances.

Method of identifying voltage difference of super capacitors and principle of voltage balancing
2007 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2007In this paper, the method of identifying voltage difference of super capacitors and the principle of voltage balancing are presented. They are evaluated, according to the tolerance of the capacitance difference, the nature of self-discharging feature and the feasibility of the real implementation. The results show, much energy can be available if lower

Capacitor Voltage Balancing in Multi-Level Voltage Reinjection (MLVR) Converters
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2005In common with conventional multi-level conversion configurations, the multi-level voltage reinjection scheme uses multi-level clamping and dc series connected capacitors. The operation conditions that lead to capacitor voltage unbalance are analyzed and the use of adaptive adjustment of the clamping switches conducting periods is investigated.
