Simple direct capacitor voltage balancing of a flying capacitor converter
2005 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2005This paper proposes a new charge control method for voltage balancing of flying capacitor multilevel converters. Only the signs of the deviations from the nominal capacitor voltages and the sign of the output current are needed to choose proper switching states for charging or discharging the ...

Capacitor Voltage Balancing Schemes in Flying Capacitor Multilevel Inverters
2007 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2007This paper focuses on the development of capacitor voltage balancing methods in a flying capacitor multilevel inverter (FCMLI). Three such strategies have been described and have been applied to a five-level CMLI. The sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique has been used while making the proposals.

Capacitor voltage balancing control for series MMC tap
IECON 2017 - 43rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2017The series HVDC tap based on modular multilevel converter (MMC) has been proposed to provide power supply for rural places. However, most of current capacitor voltage balancing control strategies are not suitable for series MMC tap. In this paper, the principle of power transfer between phases, arms and sub-modules (SMs) in a series MMC are analyzed. A

2017 IEEE 18th Workshop on Control and Modeling for Power Electronics (COMPEL), 2017
Capacitor voltage natural balancing is an attractive feature of flying capacitor multilevel (FCML) converters. However, with the commonly used phase-shifted pulse-width modulation (PSPWM), the capacitor voltages still can deviate, and active balancing is often required.

Natural capacitor voltage balancing for a flying capacitor converter induction motor drive
2008 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2008This paper presents an analysis of the natural voltage balancing dynamics of a three phase flying capacitor converter when supplying an induction motor. The approach substitutes Double Fourier harmonic series for the PWM switching waveforms and the frequency response of the motor, to create a linear state space model of this type of load.

Capacitor voltage balancing method for modular multilevel converter with flying capacitor submodules
2017 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2017The modular multilevel converter (MMC) is most widely acclaimed converter topology for high-voltage, high-power applications. Several multilevel submodules have been proposed to replace the conventional two-level submodules for MMC, allowing the reduction in the foot-print size of the converter for the same number of output voltage levels.

A Sort Method of Balancing Capacitor Voltage of MMC
2019 18th International Symposium on Distributed Computing and Applications for Business Engineering and Science (DCABES), 2019The sub-module voltage sharing of modular multi-level converters is beneficial to reducing switching losses and eliminating DC side circulations, which has attracted the attention of experts and scholars at home and abroad. Based on the quick selection sorting algorithm, this paper studies the grouping sorting of Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC ...

Capacitor voltage balancing in modular multilevel converters
6th IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2012), 2012A universal capacitor voltage control method for converters built from series connected modules is presented. It fully exploits both the circulating currents and the common-mode voltage without affecting the phase current control. The controllability of the capacitor voltages in various such converters is investigated.

Significance of Capacitor Voltage Balancing in Multilevel Inverter
2019 IEEE International Conference on Innovations in Communication, Computing and Instrumentation (ICCI), 2019In the recent trends, the use of multilevel inverter is rapidly increasing due to its good performance compared to conventional inverter. In this paper, the performance of Nested Neutral Point Clamped Multilevel inverter (NNPC) is presented. NNPC is a Hybrid type of Multilevel inerter which is nothing but the combination of two classical topologies ...
