Capacitor voltage ripple reduction and arm energy balancing in MMC-HVDC
2016 IEEE 16th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering (EEEIC), 2016Modular Multilevel Converters are emerging and widely used in HVDC applications. However, the submodule capacitors are still large and the energy balancing under unbalanced conditions is a challenge. In this paper, an analytical model focusing on the energy stored in the capacitors and voltage variations is utilized in order to achieve better ...

Capacitor Voltage Ripple Reduction Modulation Method for String Photovoltaic Inverters
2019 21st International Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON), 2019This paper proposes a new pulse width modulation (PWM) method for reducing capacitor voltage ripples in H-bridge five-level T-type inverters for grid-connected single-phase photovoltaic (PV) string inverter applications. The T-type inverters have been widely employed in several applications due to their superior performance.

Analysis of Submodule Capacitor Voltage Ripple and Second-Harmonic Current in MMCs
2019 20th Workshop on Control and Modeling for Power Electronics (COMPEL), 2019This paper presents a straightforward approach to analyze the 2nd harmonic currents in modular multilevel converters. The submodule capacitor voltage ripple is derived based upon the capacitor’s charge variations instead of commonly used energy variations, resulting in simplified calculations and an explicit expression for the voltage ripple to ...

Equivalent Model of Modular Multilevel Converter Considering Capacitor Voltage Ripples
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2019Modular multilevel converter (MMC) is regarded as a topology with high potential for high-voltage direct current transmission system. However, the distributed capacitors lead to significant submodule capacitor voltage ripples, which have great influence on the terminal characteristics of MMC.

Bypass capacitance and voltage ripple considerations for resonant switched capacitor converters
2017 IEEE 18th Workshop on Control and Modeling for Power Electronics (COMPEL), 2017Resonant switched capacitor dc-dc converter designs are commonly optimized based on flying capacitance constraints. However, for an actual circuit design, the total available capacitance is further constrained by the need for bypass capacitance at the input and output nodes.

In this paper, an analytical expression for the DC bus harmonics on the input capacitor, caused by a three phase pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter of a high speed motor drive system, is derived. As the result, we found that the parasitic line inductance between the battery and the input capacitor, and the input capacitor are indirectly proportional.

Digital compensation of DC-DC converter voltage ripple for Switched-Capacitor Power Amplifiers
2016 14th IEEE International New Circuits and Systems Conference (NEWCAS), 2016This paper presents a novel method to digitally compensate the voltage ripple of a DC-DC switching converter supplying a Switched-Capacitor Power Amplifier (SCPA). Switched DC-DC converters are highly efficient, but their output voltage exhibits a small switching ripple.

Reduction of DC-bus voltage ripples and capacitors for single-phase PWM-controlled rectifiers
IECON 2012 - 38th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2012The problem of voltage/current ripples is a primary concern for DC systems, e.g. those with fuel cells and batteries. It could seriously deteriorate the system performance on both the source side and the load side. In this paper, a single-phase PWM-controlled rectifier is taken as an example to analyse the ripple energy that causes the voltage ripples ...
