Marburg virus disease in Rwanda: an observational study of the first 10 days of outbreak response, clinical interventions, and outcomes

open access: yesBMC Medicine
Background Marburg virus disease (MVD) is a highly fatal hemorrhagic fever with fatality rates between 33 and 88% in sub-Saharan Africa. Rwanda reported its first MVD outbreak on September 27, 2024.

Foundations Need Capacity, Too: Initial Findings from the Foundation Core Capacity Assessment Tool [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
For many years, the social sector has paid substantial attention to the issue of nonprofit effectiveness. By contrast, comparatively little attention has been paid to the capacities that foundations themselves need to achieve impact.

Brownian motion and thermal capacity

open access: yes, 2015
Let $W$ denote $d$-dimensional Brownian motion. We find an explicit formula for the essential supremum of Hausdorff dimension of $W(E)\cap F$, where $E\subset(0,\infty)$ and $F\subset \mathbf {R}^d$ are arbitrary nonrandom compact sets.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Massive MIMO has Unlimited Capacity

open access: yes, 2017
The capacity of cellular networks can be improved by the unprecedented array gain and spatial multiplexing offered by Massive MIMO. Since its inception, the coherent interference caused by pilot contamination has been believed to create a finite capacity

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The Capacity of Linear Computation Broadcast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The two-user computation broadcast problem is introduced as the setting where user 1 wants message W1 and has side information W0 1 , user 2 wants message W2 and has side information W0 2, and (W1;W0 1 ;W2;W0 2) may have arbitrary dependencies.
