By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Hybrid Model Predictive Control Strategy of Supercapacitor Energy Storage System Based on Double Active Bridge

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In order to solve the problem of which the dynamic response of a supercapacitor (SC) is limited due to the mismatch dynamic characteristics between the DC/DC converter and supercapacitor in an energy storage system, this paper proposes a hybrid model ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Linking Bacillus cereus Genotypes and Carbohydrate Utilization Capacity. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
We characterised carbohydrate utilisation of 20 newly sequenced Bacillus cereus strains isolated from food products and food processing environments and two laboratory strains, B. cereus ATCC 10987 and B. cereus ATCC 14579. Subsequently, genome sequences

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

The relationship between capacity and utilization of nonpharmacologic therapies in the US Military Health System

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2022
Background Nonpharmacologic therapies (NPTs) are recommended as first-line treatments for pain, however the impact of expanding professional capacity to deliver these therapies on use has not been extensively studied.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Optimization of High-Speed Rail Express Transportation Scheduling Based on Spatio-Temporal-State Network Modeling

open access: yesApplied Sciences
High-speed rail express is gradually gaining attention due to its low cost and high on-time performance. This paper studied the optimization of high-speed rail express transportation modes considering passenger capacity loss.
