Analysis of woodchip heating capacity calculated according to technical standards and measurements of calorific value

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2014
Woodchip sampling may be done according to two methodologies, based on the volume or calorific value of the fuel. The paper compares heating values obtained through relative humidity measurements according to Slovak technical standards and through ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

High-capacity reversible data hiding with iterative dual pixel value ordering

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
This paper presents an iterative dual pixel value ordering (I-DPVO) scheme for reversible data hiding (RDH), designed to enhance embedding capacity while preserving image fidelity.

The valuative capacity of subshifts of finite type

open access: yesJournal of Number Theory, 2016
The characteristic sequence of a subset E of the integers enable to generalize the factorial. The asymptotic limit of this sequence, called the valuative capacity, is actually related to the transfinite diameter of this set embedded into the set of p-adic integers. We use tools of potential theory to obtain formulas to compute this capacity.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Guiding-center solitons in rotating potentials

open access: yes, 2007
We demonstrate that rotating quasi-one-dimensional potentials, periodic or parabolic, support solitons in settings where they are otherwise impossible.

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Balance sheet capacity and endogenous risk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Banks operating under Value-at-Risk constraints give rise to a welldefined aggregate balance sheet capacity for the banking sector as a whole that depends on total bank capital.
