The economic value of additional airport departure capacity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Air Transport Management, 2018
This article presents a model for the economic value of extra capacity at an airport. The model is based on a series of functional relationships linking the benefits of extra capacity and the associated costs. It takes into account the cost of delay for airlines and its indirect consequences on the airport, through the loss or gain of aeronautical and ...

Robot Cars and Dynamic Bottleneck Congestion: The Effects on Capacity, Value of Time and Preference Heterogeneity

open access: yes, 2016
‘Autonomous cars’ are cars that can drive themselves without human control. Autonomous cars can safely drive closer together than cars driven by humans, thereby possibly increasing road capacity.

The Prognostic Value of a Nomogram for Exercise Capacity in Women [PDF]

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2005
Recent studies have demonstrated that exercise capacity is an independent predictor of mortality in women. Normative values of exercise capacity for age in women have not been well established. Our objectives were to construct a nomogram to permit determination of predicted exercise capacity for age in women and to assess the predictive value of the ...

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Effect of soil-pile contact parameters on pile bearing capacity value [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The soil and foundation elements are fundamental to the behavior of a structure. When the foundation soil has a low capacity, it is necessary to transmit the loads to a deeper and more resistant layer, using deep foundations.

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...

Value of improved treadmill exercise capacity [PDF]

open access: yesHeart, 1999
Editor,—Staniforth et al ’s paper comparing exercise capacity in VVIR and VVI pacing modes in 12 patients with complete AV block showed that rate responsive pacing improved some but not all measures of exercise capacity.1 They conclude that the best investigation for assessing exercise capacity remains unclear. On the contrary, we feel that what is at
