Comparative Analysis of Mechanical Properties and Microbiological Resistance of Polyfilament and Monofilament Suture Materials Used in the Operation “Tooth Extraction”

open access: yesBiomimetics, 2023
In surgical dentistry, suture material is the only foreign body that remains in the tissues after surgery, and it can lead to several negative reactions, for example, infection of the wound.

Free-energy landscape of nucleation with an intermediate metastable phase studied using capillarity approximation

open access: yes, 2011
Capillarity approximation is used to study the free-energy landscape of nucleation when an intermediate metastable phase exists. The critical nucleus that corresponds to the saddle point of the free-energy landscape as well as the whole free-energy ...

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

The Effects of Viscosity and Capillarity on Nonequilibrium Distribution of Gas Bubbles in Swelling Liquid–Gas Solution

open access: yesColloids and Interfaces, 2023
A detailed statistical description of the evolution of supersaturated-by-gas solution at degassing has been presented on the basis of finding the time-dependent distribution in radii of overcritical gas bubbles.

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Blocking of Gas–Liquid Coalescing Filters with Accumulated Oil during the On–Off Operation of a Filtration System

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The study aims to eliminate the effect of coalescing filter blocking due to on–off operation by changing the wetting properties of the non-woven fiberglass filter media through their chemical modification with the use of a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS ...

A vanishing dynamic capillarity limit equation with discontinuous flux

open access: yes, 2020
We prove existence and uniqueness of a solution to the Cauchy problem corresponding to the equation \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} \partial_t u_{\varepsilon,\delta} +\mathrm{div} {\mathfrak f}_{\varepsilon,\delta}({\bf x}, u_{\varepsilon,\delta ...

On the shape of capillarity droplets in a container [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We provide a quantitative description of global minimizers of the Gauss free energy for a liquid droplet bounded in a container in the small volume regime.Comment: 37 pages, 3 ...

Discrete modelling of capillary mechanisms in multi-phase granular media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A numerical study of multi-phase granular materials based upon micro-mechanical modelling is proposed. Discrete element simulations are used to investigate capillary induced effects on the friction properties of a granular assembly in the pendular regime.
