Capillary malformations (CMs) are the most common vascular anomalies, composed of enlarged capillaries and venules with thickened perivascular cell coverage in skin and mucous membranes. These congenital anomalies represent an error in vascular development during embryogenesis.

Nanoinjector for Capillary Electrophoresis and Capillary Electrochromatography
Analytical Chemistry, 2003A rotary valve nanoinjector was devised for use in capillary electrophoresis (CE) and capillary electrochromatography (CEC). A fused-silica capillary tip was inserted in a small through-hole in the rotor. The narrow and short capillary tip, with an inner volume of 6-24 nL, was embedded in the hole using epoxy resin.

Capillary Network Morphology and Capillary Flow
International Journal of Microcirculation, 2008This paper examines the authors’ research on capillary network morphology and the heterogeneity of capillary red cell (RBC) perfusion in skeletal muscle with the aim of demonstrating that capillary network structure plays a major role in determining flow distribution.

Capillary Ultrastructure and Functional Capillary Density
International Journal of Microcirculation, 2008We briefly summarize our findings on alterations in capillary structure in skeletal muscle and heart in response to up to 30 min of ischemia. In frog sartorius muscle, reactive hyperemia was absent in atrophy. Increased spatial heterogeneity of red cell velocity in individual capillaries was observed, as were increases in the percentage of capillaries ...

Capillary pumps for autonomous capillary systems
Lab Chip, 2007Autonomous capillary systems (CSs), where liquids are displaced by means of capillarity, are efficient, fast and convenient platforms for many bioanalytical applications. The proper functioning of these microfluidic devices requires displacing accurate volumes of liquids with precise flow rates.

Abstract A mathematical analysis of the flow field in a microoccluded capillary is presented. With this model explicit solutions for the fluid velocity, hydrostatic pressure and protein concentration are obtained in the postocclusion flow field. These solutions, which describe the spatial and temporal nature of the field, are compared with in vivo ...

Overview of capillary electrophoresis and capillary electrochromatography
Journal of Chromatography A, 1999This paper provides an overview on the current status of capillary electrophoresis (CE) and capillary electrochromatography (CEC). The focus is largely on the current application areas of CE where routine methods are now in place. These application areas include the analysis of DNA, clinical and forensic samples, carbohydrates, inorganic anions and ...

A nonwetting slug placed at the end of a capillary tube is unstable: a small displacement results in the complete extraction of the liquid from the tube. We study two limiting cases, corresponding to a slug viscosity larger or smaller than that of the surrounding liquid.
