Relationships Between European Wildcats and Domestic Cats in an Area of Sympatry: Exploring Key Conservation Questions on Hybridization and Disease Transmission

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 321-333, June 2026.
We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

Role of Local Medium to Large Mammalian Species in Seed Dispersal of Fleshy‐Fruited Invasive Alien Plants in the Montane Grassland Biome of South Africa

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 64, Issue 4, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Fleshy‐fruited invasive alien shrubs are an increasing problem in the grasslands of South Africa, where they alter vegetation and threaten biodiversity. They are predominantly bird‐dispersed in forest systems, but their spread in grassland ecosystems remains understudied, including their dispersal by mammals.

Nrf2/NOX2 Pathway Dysregulation and Oxidative Stress Biomarkers in Gaucher Disease–Associated Parkinsonism: Insights Into a Potential Therapeutic Target

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 11, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder, yet its underlying genetic and molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Variants in the GBA gene, encoding the lysosomal enzyme glucocerebrosidase, are not only responsible for Gaucher disease (GD) but also represent a significant genetic risk factor ...
