Colon Capsule Endoscopy

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics of North America, 2015
Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) is a minimally invasive technique specifically designed to explore the colon without sedation and air insufflation. CCE may overcome some of the limitations of colonoscopy. Second-generation CCE (CCE-2) was proved accurate in detecting colonic neoplastic lesions when used in average-risk individuals.

Wireless capsule endoscopy

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 2013
Over the last decade, WCE has established itself as a valuable test for imaging the small intestine. It is a safe and relatively easy procedure to perform that can provide valuable information in the diagnosis of small-bowel conditions. Its applications still remain limited within the esophagus and colon.

Wireless capsule endoscopy

Nature, 2000
The discomfort of internal gastrointestinal examination may soon be a thing of the past. We have developed a new type of endoscopy, which for the first time allows painless endoscopic imaging of the whole of the small bowel. This procedure involves a wireless capsule endoscope and we describe here its successful testing in humans.

Video Capsule Endoscopy: Clinical Relevance of Capsule Endoscopy Findings

The American Surgeon™, 2006
Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) is a novel diagnostic tool for noninvasively visualizing the lumen of the entire small intestine. It is especially useful in identifying the source of obscure small intestinal bleeding. However, VCE is not always optimal for localizing small bowel lesions.

Performing Capsule Endoscopy

Gastroenterology Nursing, 2003
Small bowel bleeding is difficult to locate with current technology and costly to treat because of repeated diagnostic workups and hospitalizations. Some patients will eventually undergo intraoperative enteroscopy, the current gold standard. If the cause of bleeding is found, they may then have a bowel resection to treat their condition.

Video capsule endoscopy

Current Opinion in Gastroenterology, 2004
The small bowel has been a difficult organ for gastroenterologists to evaluate. Small bowel radiographs and CT scanning have not had a high diagnostic rate, especially in patients presenting with small bowel bleeding. The video capsule "endoscope" has allowed for the direct visualization of the small bowel mucosa.
