Viral diversity in wild rodents in the regions of Canaã de Carajás and Curionopólis, State of Pará, Brazil. [PDF]
Wild rodents serve as crucial reservoirs for zoonotic viruses. Anthropogenic and environmental disruptions, particularly those induced by mining activities, can destabilize rodent populations and facilitate the emergence of viral agents. In the Canaã dos

Cave-dwelling bats of Carajás National Forest: New cytogenetic data of threatened species. [PDF]
The Carajás National Forest, a Conservation Unit protected by law, is one of the few forest remnants in the southeastern region of Pará, Eastern Amazonia, Brazil, reconciling biodiversity protection with economic activities (i.e. mining). The present study aims to describe the chromosomal diversity of bats in natural caves of the Carajás National ...

Assessing Connectivity Thresholds Under Habitat Loss Scenarios for Threatened Amphibians and Squamate Reptiles in the Eastern Brazilian Amazon. [PDF]
We assessed which habitat extinction threshold in a landscape is a good predictor of functional connectivity for 14 species of terrestrial herpetofauna in the eastern Brazilian Amazon. We concluded that forest species should maintain a threshold of approximately 30% of habitat to avoid a significant abrupt decline in overall connectivity.

Microbial Chemical Diversity and Cytotoxic Potential From Brazilian Ferruginous Caves: A Pioneering Metabolomic Survey. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Cave microbiomes represent a rich yet understudied source of chemical diversity with biotechnological properties. Microorganisms in these environments thrive under extreme conditions such as darkness, oligotrophy, and high concentrations of inorganic matter like iron ore.

Floral Integration and Phenotypic Selection on Floral Traits of Ipomoea cavalcantei (Convolvulaceae), a Rare, Endemic, and Endangered Species to the Amazon Ironstone Outcrops. [PDF]
This paper analyzed the evolutionary potential of Ipomoea cavalcantei (an endemic species from the Amazon) by using floral integration and phenotypic selection analysis. The analyzed population presented floral integration in style length, probably due to selective pressures from pollinators on floral traits related to pollen deposition.

Crystallization Pathways of Iron Formations: Insights From Magnetic Properties and High-Resolution Imaging of the 2.7 Ga Carajás Formation, Brazil. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Banded iron formations (BIFs) are chemical sedimentary rocks commonly utilized for exploring the chemistry and redox state of the Precambrian ocean. Despite their significance, many aspects regarding the crystallization pathways of iron oxides in BIFs remain loosely constrained.

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact
An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.
