Application of spatially robust stereo‐BRUV sampling for quantifying fish assemblages in UK marine protected areas

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 35, Issue 6, September 2025.
Abstract Marine protected areas (MPAs) often lack adequate data on the status of marine assemblages to support evidence‐based management. Stereo baited remote underwater video (BRUV) systems offer a powerful, low‐cost tool for collecting ecological data, yet they remain underutilized in the North East Atlantic, especially compared to more invasive ...

3D Habitat Complexity and Coral Morphology Modulate Reef Fish Functional Structure in a Marine National Park

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
This study investigates how 3D habitat complexity and coral morphology shape reef fish functional groups. We found that both coral morphologies, particularly branching and mounding corals, and structural complexity metrics like slope and vector terrain ruggedness significantly drive fish functional group abundance.

Results of bottom trawl surveys carried out in Vietnamese waters (20-200 m) in 1996-1997 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Bottom trawl surveys were conducted in the southwest monsoon season in 1996 (survey 1) and in the northeast monsoon season in 1996-97 (survey 2) throughout Vietnamese waters. The surveys mainly covered the depth zone 50-200 m but in the northeast monsoon

Novel Use of Environmental DNA Metabarcoding to Assess the Impacts of a Large‐Scale Seismic Survey on Tropical Fish Communities

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 5, September–October 2025.
eDNA was used to assess whether there had been any impacts to an offshore demersal fish community. No major changes due to the seismic experiment were observed. When used in concert with baited remote underwater camera stations (BRUVS), a more comprehensive assessment of the fish community was obtained.

Recurrence of the Spatial Structure of Summer Larval Fish Assemblages Linked to Hydrodynamics in the NW Mediterranean

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 34, Issue 5, Page 99-120, September 2025.
ABSTRACT In this study, we aim to investigate the contribution of various sources of variability, environmental, spatial and interannual on the larval fish assemblages (LFA) in summer off the Catalan coast, an area with a wide array of environmental conditions.
