Studies based on molecular genetics offer the possibility to understand the structure of populations and provide data to implement measures designed to protect them. Caranx hippos, is a fish with a wide distribution in the Western Atlantic, becoming one of the most economically important species in the artisanal fishing industry in Colombia.

In nine Caranx hippos specimens, Cd, Pb, Cr, and Cu concentration was determined in tissues (muscle and gonad) and parasites (nematodes and cestodes). The fish were caught from February to June 2019 in Las Barrancas, Alvarado Beach, Veracruz, Mexico. Heavy metals were quantified using atomic absorption spectrophotometer.

Caranx hippos (Linnaeus, 1766) Caranx hippos also occurs at São Tomé. It is characterized by a yellow anal fin, shorter dorsal and anal fin lobes and fewer anal fin rays (16 or 17 versus 17-19, usually 18) than the undescribed Caranx species. We investigated the effects of sampled water volume, biological, and PCR replicates in characterizing deep‐sea pelagic biodiversity. We suggest that future studies collect at least 5 L, 5 or more field replicates, and 5–10 PCR replicates to adequately investigate deep‐sea pelagic biodiversity when using Niskin bottles coupled with CTD.

Hyperostosis in Fishes: An Update With New Species Records
Hyperostosis is an enigmatic dimension of diversity in the anatomy of fishes. This excessive overgrowth of bone is natural in origin, occurs almost exclusively in marine fishes, is generally species‐specific, and becomes fully developed only in large individuals. We document hyperostosis in 35 families, 89 genera, and 153 species.
