In vitro embryotoxicity of carbamazepine and carbamazepine-10,11-epoxide [PDF]

open access: possibleTeratology, 1996
Carbamazepine (Tegretol, CBZ) is an anticonvulsant drug that is very effective in the treatment of tonic-clonic seizures and is gaining acceptance as a treatment for various psychiatric disorders. The drug is embryotoxic in rodents and has been reported to produce neural tube defects in approximated 1% of prenatally exposed human offspring.

Activation of T cells by carbamazepine and carbamazepine metabolites

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2006
T-cell-mediated hypersensitivity is a rare but serious manifestation of drug therapy. To explore the mechanisms of drug presentation to T cells and the possibility that generation of metabolite-specific T cells may provoke cross-sensitization between drugs.A lymphocyte transformation test was performed on 13 hypersensitive patients with carbamazepine ...

The pharmacokinetics of carbamazepine

European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1977
The time-courses of plasma carbamazepine concentrations were followed in six apparently healthy adult subjects who, at different times, took single oral drug doses of 200, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900 mg. There were some suggestions of impaired bioavailability of the drug when given in tablet form.

Carbamazepine

2016
This chapter includes the aspects of carbamazepine. The drug is synthesized by the use of 5H-dibenz[b,f]azepine and phosgene followed by subsequent reaction with ammonia. Carbamazepine is generally used for the treatment of seizure disorders and neuropathic pain, it is also important as off-label for a second-line treatment for bipolar disorder and in ...

Carbamazepine and the lung

European Respiratory Journal, 1990
A 69 yr old man was admitted with a 10 day history of fever, arthromyalgia, dyspnoea, dry cough and pleuritic pain. Temperature was 38 degrees C; tachypnoea 36 rpm. Extensive crackles were audible over both upper lung fields. Chest X-ray showed bilateral alveolar infiltrates.

Carbamazepine‐10,11‐Epoxide Determined by EMIT Carbamazepine Reagent

Epilepsia, 1980
SUMMARYCarbamazepine‐10,11‐epoxide (CBZ‐OX) was determined in physiological solutions by means of EMIT carbamazepine reagent. It was recognized as 12 to 20% of the total amount, the cross‐reaction being higher at lower CBZ‐OX concentrations. A correction for CBZ‐OX is necessary when one wants to correlate EMIT carbamazepine values with gas‐liquid ...
