Remineralization Potential of a Fluoridated Carbamide Peroxide Whitening Gel
Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, 2006ABSTRACTPurpose: Little knowledge exists regarding the potential remineralizing benefits of adding fluoride to carbamide peroxide‐based whitening gels. The aim of this project was to evaluate whether a whitening system with fluoride will remineralize previously demineralized enamel.Materials and Methods: Twenty‐four extracted teeth were sectioned ...

Safety Issues When Using a 16% Carbamide Peroxide Whitening Solution
Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, 2002ABSTRACT Background: The scientific literature is lacking on the occurrence of side effects and other safety issues when using carbamide peroxide whitening solutions of concentrations greater than 10%. This double‐blind nightguard vital bleaching study compares safety issues when using 16% carbamide peroxide against a placebo or 10% carbamide peroxide (

Effect of Whitening Agents Containing Carbamide Peroxide on Cariogenic Bacteria
Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, 2000ABSTRACT Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the in vitro antibacterial effects of three different carbamide peroxide products (Nitewhite®, Opalescence®, and Proxigel®) on cariogenic microorganisms (mutans streptococci [MS] and lactobacilli), and to evaluate the effects of a 10% carbamide peroxide solution (Proxigel®) on salivary ...

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 2000
Vital tooth bleaching for esthetic reasons has gained in popularity during the last few years. However, few studies have investigated the efficacy of daytime bleaching products. The purpose of this double-blind in vivo study was to evaluate the efficacy of 20 percent carbamide peroxide, or CP, and 7.5 percent hydrogen peroxide, or HP, during daytime ...

Higher‐Concentration Carbamide Peroxide Effects on Surface Roughness of Composites
Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, 2002ABSTRACT Background: Ten percent carbamide peroxide has been used extensively within the dental profession for the purpose of bleaching teeth. Although this method has been successful, the use of higher‐concentration carbamide peroxides (20–35%) for home bleaching has increased substantially in the past few years.

Penetration of the pulp chamber by carbamide peroxide bleaching agents
Journal of Endodontics, 1992Hydrogen peroxide readily penetrates the pulp chamber of freshly extracted teeth. This study was undertaken to determine whether carbamide peroxide also penetrates the pulp chamber. Freshly extracted teeth were sectioned 2 to 3 mm apical to the cementoenamel junction and the coronal pulpal tissue was removed.

Effect of carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide on enamel surface: an in vitro study
Clinical Oral Investigations, 2010The aim of the study was to investigate changes in the micromorphologyl and microhardness of the enamel surface after bleaching with two different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (HP) and carbamide peroxide (CP). Bovine enamel samples were embedded in resin blocks, and polished.

Bleaching primary teeth with 10% carbamide peroxide.
Pediatric dentistry, 2002Bleaching teeth with 10% carbamide peroxide in a custom-fitted tray has been popular for more than 10 years. However, primary teeth are seldom considered for bleaching due to the need for compliance by the child and the natural whiteness of the primary teeth.

Effects of phosphoric acid on bovine enamel bleached with carbamide peroxide
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 2008The aim of this study was to measure the demineralization capacity of 37% phosphoric acid on bovine enamel at different time‐points after bleaching with 30% carbamide peroxide. Five, 4 × 4‐mm sections were obtained from the enamel of 10 bovine incisors.

Salivary pH changes during 10% carbamide peroxide bleaching.
Quintessence international (Berlin, Germany : 1985), 1995The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect on salivary pH of a 10% carbamide peroxide solution when used with a custom-fitted guard for bleaching teeth. Baseline pH values were established for unstimulated saliva and on saliva produced while wearing an empty guard. After insertion of a guard half filled with Proxigel, salivary pH measurements
