CH/π Interactions in Carbohydrate Recognition
Many carbohydrate-binding proteins contain aromatic amino acid residues in their binding sites. These residues interact with carbohydrates in a stacking geometry via CH/π interactions.

Reversibility, Water-Mediated Switching, and Directed Cell Dynamics [PDF]
Reversible switching of the complex network dynamics of proteins is mimicked in selected network glasses and compacted small carbohydrate molecules. Protein transitions occur on long time scales ~ us -ms, evocative of the exponentially large viscosities found in glass-forming supercooled liquids just above the glass transition; in searching for ...

Improvement of Critical Current Density and Upper Critical Field in MgB2 using Carbohydrate [PDF]
We evaluated the doping effects of carbohydrate (malic acid, C4H6O5), from 0wt% to 30wt% of total MgB2, on the phase, lattice parameters, critical temperature, resistivity, and upper critical field of MgB2 superconductor. The lattice parameters calculated show a large decrease in the a-axis for MgB2 + C4H6O5 samples, but no change in the c-axis.

Lattice paramenter, lattice disorder and resistivity of carbohydrate doepd MgB2 and their correlation with the transition temperature [PDF]
The change in the lattice parameters or the lattice disorder is claimed as a cause of the slight reduction in the transition temperature by carbon doping in MgB2. In this work, an extensive investigation on the effects of carbohydrate doping has been carried out.

Mutations in \u3cem\u3eRhizobium phaseoli\u3c/em\u3e that Lead to Arrested Development of Infection Threads [PDF]
Two Rhizobium phaseoli mutants, isolated previously by Tn5 mutagenesis, elicited infection threads which ceased development prematurely, usually within root hairs. These infection threads were wide, globular, and otherwise altered in morphology, compared

The start of the Abiogenesis: Preservation of homochirality in proteins as a necessary and sufficient condition for the establishment of the metabolism [PDF]
Biosystems contain an almost infinite amount of vital important details, which together ensure their life. There are, however, some common structures and reactions in the systems: the homochirality of carbohydrates and proteins, the metabolism and the genetics.

Nutrient digestibility and growth response of rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri ) fed different carbohydrate types [PDF]
Seven groups of fingerling rainbow trout (S. gairdneri ) were fed for 10 weeks on 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% of cassava or rice in isonitrogenous diets. Optimum growth and food utilization was at 20% dietary cassava.

Carbohydrate-Free Peach (Prunus persica) and Plum (Prunus salicina) [corrected] Juice Affects Fecal Microbial Ecology in an Obese Animal Model. [PDF]
BACKGROUND Growing evidence shows the potential of nutritional interventions to treat obesity but most investigations have utilized non-digestible carbohydrates only. Peach and plum contain high amounts of polyphenols, compounds with demonstrated anti-

When Consumers Diet, Should Producers Care? An Examination of Low-Carb Dieting and U.S. Orange Juice Consumption [PDF]
From 2000 through 2004, per-capita orange juice purchases decreased by 12.3 percent in the United States, while the popularity and media coverage of low-carbohydrate dieting exploded.
