Shaping Carbon Nitrides for Advanced Macrostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review examines how carbon nitride can be shaped through a range of printing and interfacial assembly methods. By bringing together additive manufacturing and liquid–liquid structuring concepts, carbon nitride is moving beyond its traditional powder‐based photocatalyst form toward digitally designed robust macroscale architectures with high design

Fragments of bacterial endoglycosidase S and immunoglobulin G reveal subdomains of each that contribute to deglycosylation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Endoglycosidase S (EndoS) is a glycoside-hydrolase secreted by the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes. EndoS preferentially hydrolyzes the N-linked glycans from the Fc region of IgG during infection. This hydrolysis impedes Fc functionality and contributes

Enzyme discovery and structure-function investigation of carbohydrate-active enzymes

open access: yes, 2019
The plant cell wall is the main component of wood, and it has a highly complex structure. In nature, microorganisms can essentially break down all of its parts, and their enzymes can be used for catalyzing specific reaction to remodel and modify wood ...

The Phylogenomic Diversity of Herbivore-Associated Fibrobacter spp. Is Correlated to Lignocellulose-Degrading Potential

open access: yesmSphere, 2018
Members of the genus Fibrobacter are cellulose-degrading bacteria and common constituents of the gastrointestinal microbiota of herbivores. Although considerable phylogenetic diversity is observed among members of this group, few functional differences ...

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

Malectin Alleviates Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus via Glycoprotein Quality Control Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Malectin alleviates high glucose‐induced ER stress and damage in placental trophoblasts, a function dependent on its six critical carbohydrate‐binding residues. In a GDM mouse model, administration of TAT‐Malectin ameliorated hyperglycemia and placental ER stress and prevented fetal macrosomia.

The cloning , expression and characterisation of bacterial chitin-binding proteins from pseudomonas aeruginosa , serratia marcescens, photorhabdus luminescens and photorhabdus asymbiotica. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
It is well recognised that most proteins are subject to post translational modifications and that these modifications can have specific effects on the biological properties and functions of these proteins.

Carbohydrate-active Enzymes from Extremophiles

open access: yesJournal of Applied Glycoscience, 2006
The term “extremophiles” is used for organisms that thrive under extreme conditions, and are designated the enzymes that are active and tolerant under extreme reaction conditions “extremozymes”. We have long been engaged in the screening, gene cloning, and industrial applications of alkaline enzymes from alkaliphilic bacilli.
