Ocean Carbon Dioxide Removal and Storage. [PDF]
The ocean, Earth's largest carbon reservoir, exerts a central role over atmospheric CO2 through its capacity to store carbon primarily as bicarbonate ions. Direct observations indicate that the global ocean has a net carbon uptake of 2.6-3.0 petagrams of carbon annually, representing nearly 30% of anthropogenic CO2 emissions.

Wastewater Treatment for Carbon Dioxide Removal. [PDF]
Wastewater treatment is notorious for its hefty carbon footprint, accounting for 1-2% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Nonetheless, the treatment process itself could also present an innovative carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approach. Here, the calcium (Ca)-rich effluent of a phosphorus (P) recovery system from municipal wastewater (P recovered ...

Controversies of carbon dioxide removal
Various methods of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) are being pursued in response to the climate crisis, but they are mostly not proven at scale. Climate experts are divided over whether CDR is a necessary requirement or a dangerous distraction from limiting emissions. In this Viewpoint, six experts offer their views on the CDR debate.

Review of Economics and Policies of Carbon Dioxide Removal. [PDF]
Abstract Purpose of review Despite the increasing political attention and support, the high costs of many carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies remain a barrier to their large-scale deployment. We provide an overview of the economics for two key CDR options – BECCS and DACCS – and review proposed and existing CDR ...

International carbon markets for carbon dioxide removal [PDF]
International carbon markets are potentially a very powerful tool for mobilizing carbon dioxide removal in line with Paris Agreement ambitions to limit global warming to well below 2°C. This requires reaching global net-zero emissions between 2050 and 2070. Yet, carbon market regulators have not approached removals in a systematic manner.

Governing carbon dioxide removal [PDF]
Carbon dioxide removal (CDR), also known as negative emissions, greenhouse gas removal, or simply carbon removal, is in need of effective governance. If governments are to deliver on the growing number of pledges to meet “net zero” and “net-negative” emissions targets, and if the world is to successfully limit global warming to “well-below 2°C ...

The Effects of Carbon Dioxide Removal on the Carbon Cycle [PDF]
Increasing atmospheric CO2 is having detrimental effects on the Earth system. Societies have recognized that anthropogenic CO2 release must be rapidly reduced to avoid potentially catastrophic impacts. Achieving this via emissions reductions alone will be very difficult.

Biofixation of Carbon dioxide by Chlamydomonas sp. in a Tubular Photobioreactor [PDF]
The biogas production from anaerobic digestion is a potential fuel for power generators application, if biogas can be upgraded to the same standards as fossil natural gas by CO2, H2S, and other non-combustible component removal.

Direct Air Capture-Based Carbon Dioxide Removal with United States Low-Carbon Energy and Sinks [PDF]
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will lead a team to develop preliminary designs for large-scale direct air capture (DAC) and storage plants to collect and permanently store carbon dioxide (CO2) at three different facilities located in ...

Kinetics of absorption of carbon dioxide in aqueous piperazine solutions [PDF]
In the present work the absorption of carbon dioxide into aqueous piperazine (PZ) solutions has been studied in a stirred cell, at low to moderate temperatures, piperazine concentrations ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 kmol m- 3, and carbon dioxide pressures up ...
