Carbon Dioxide Fixation By Green Plants [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Plant Physiology, 1950
Since the end of the war when the long-lived isotope of carbon, C{sup 14} became available a new tool has been applied in the study of photosynthesis. Because of the interest evoked by the tracer method, research in all areas of photosynthesis has expanded.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

The Development of a Mesh-Free Technique for the Fractional Model of the Inverse Problem of the Rayleigh–Stokes Equation with Additive Noise

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
We are especially interested in the general framework and ability of a semi-analytic method (SAM) to use the trigonometric basis function (TBF) in different domains.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Estimating carbon fixation of plant organs for afforestation monitoring using a process‐based ecosystem model and ecophysiological parameter optimization

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
Afforestation projects for mitigating CO2 emissions require to monitor the carbon fixation and plant growth as key indicators. We proposed a monitoring method for predicting carbon fixation in afforestation projects, combining a process‐based ecosystem ...

Detailed profiling of carbon fixation of in silico synthetic autotrophy with reductive tricarboxylic acid cycle and Calvin-Benson-Bassham cycle in Esherichia coli using hydrogen as an energy source

open access: yesSynthetic and Systems Biotechnology, 2019
Carbon fixation is the main route of inorganic carbon in the form of CO2 into the biosphere. In nature, RuBisCO is the most abundant protein that photosynthetic organisms use to fix CO2 from the atmosphere through the Calvin-Benson-Bassham (CBB) cycle ...

Maximum rates of N2 fixation and primary production are out of phase in a developing cyanobacterial bloom in the Baltic Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Although N2-fixing cyanobacteria contribute significantly to oceanic sequestration of atmospheric CO2, little is known about how N2 fixation and carbon fixation (primary production) interact in natural populations of marine cyanobacteria. In a developing

Freezing and chemical preservatives alter the stable isotope values of carbon and nitrogen of the Asiatic clam (Corbicula fluminea) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We tested the impacts of most common sample preservation methods used for aquatic sample materials on the stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen in clams, a typical baseline indicator organism for many aquatic food web studies utilising stable ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Effect of Carbon Fixation Time on the Properties of Gangue–Fly Ash Composite Filling Materials: Carbon Fixation Amount and Rheological Properties

open access: yesC
Coal-based solid wastes are used for carbon fixation, which can achieve the dual purpose of resource utilization of coal-based solid wastes and CO2 storage, but carbon fixation has a negative impact on the rheological properties of filling slurry.
