Clinical Indications for Carbon Ion Radiotherapy

Compared with photon and proton therapy, carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) offers potentially superior dose distributions, which may permit dose escalation with the potential for improved sparing of adjacent normal tissues. CIRT has increased biological effectiveness leading to increased tumour killing compared with other radiation modalities.

Abstract : The overall objective of this program is to demonstrate a system capable of reproducibly coating polycarbonate plastic sheet with ion deposited transparent carbon. Strip injection for carbon ion synchrotrons

Requirements and effects of strip injection of C4+ at 6MeV∕u into carbon ion synchrotrons are studied. The setup is composed of three chicane dipoles, one Lambertson septum, and one carbon stripping foil at a thickness of 60μg∕cm2. The required length of the injection section is about 4.1m.
