Carbon isotope fractionation in plants [PDF]

open access: yesPhytochemistry, 1981
The objectives of this research are: To develop a theoretical and experimental framework for understanding isotope fractionations in plants; and to develop methods for using this isotope fractionation for understanding the dynamics of CO{sub 2} fixation in plants. Progress is described.

Isotopic ecology of coyotes from scat and road kill carcasses: A complementary approach to feeding experiments. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Scat is frequently used to study animal diets because it is easy to find and collect, but one concern is that gross fecal analysis (GFA) techniques exaggerate the importance of small-bodied prey to mammalian mesopredator diets.

Applications of stable water and carbon isotopes in watershed research: Weathering, carbon cycling, and water balances [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Research on rivers has traditionally involved concentration and flux measurements to better understand weathering, transport and cycling of materials from land to ocean.

Ab-initio coupled-cluster effective interactions for the shell model: Application to neutron-rich oxygen and carbon isotopes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We derive and compute effective valence-space shell-model interactions from ab-initio coupled-cluster theory and apply them to open-shell and neutron-rich oxygen and carbon isotopes.

Carbon Isotopic Measurements of Nanotubes to Differentiate Carbon Sources [PDF]

open access: yesACS Omega, 2019
Stable carbon isotope (δ(13C)) analysis can provide information concerning the starting materials and the production process of a material. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are produced using a variety of starting materials, catalysts, and production methods.

An investigation into the archaeological application of carbon stable isotope analysis used to establish crop water availability: solutions and ways forward [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Carbon stable isotope analysis of charred cereal remains is a relatively new method employed by archaeological scientists to investigate ancient climate and irrigation regimes. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of environmental variables

The effect of 12C + 12C rate uncertainties on s-process yields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The slow neutron capture process in massive stars (the weak s-process) produces most of the s-only isotopes in the mass region 60 < A < 90. The nuclear reaction rates used in simulations of this process have a profound effect on the final s-process ...

Tracing the source of soil organic matter eroded from temperate forest catchments using carbon and nitrogen isotopes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Soil erosion continuously redistributes soil and associated soil organic matter (SOM) on the Earth's surface, with important implications for biogeochemical cycling of essential elements and terrestrial carbon sequestration.

Isotopic Composition of Carbon in Vinegars

open access: yesJournal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL, 1985
Abstract Measurements of δ13C and 14C-activity were performed on vinegars from various known sources. Natural vinegar can be distinguished from petrochemical acetic acid by 14C-analysis: Natural vinegar currently gives values of > 112% of modern activity; petrochemical acetic acid yields values of 0% of modern activity.
