Hybrid heterophasic polypropylene composites with basalt fibers and Magnesium oxysulfate reinforcements for sustainable automotive materials

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Hybrid heterophasic polypropylene (PP) composites comprising basalt fibers and Magnesium oxysulfate reinforcements were fabricated for the next generation of automobile plastic parts. The prepared composites were tested and characterized for their thermo-

Nanoengineering Carbon Allotropes from Graphene

open access: yes, 2009
Monolithic structures can be built into graphene by the addition and subsequent re-arrangement of carbon atoms. To this end, ad-dimers of carbon are a particularly attractive building block because a number of emerging technologies offer the promise of ...

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Hollow MnO2 as a tumor-microenvironment-responsive biodegradable nano-platform for combination therapy favoring antitumor immune responses

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
MnO2 nanostructures are promising TME-responsive theranostic agents in cancer. Here, the authors develop a nano-platform based on hollow H-MnO2 nanoshells able to modulate the tissue microenvironment, release a drug and inhibit tumor growth alone or in ...

Assessing the critical material constraints on low carbon infrastructure transitions

open access: yes, 2013
We present an assessment method to analyze whether the disruption in supply of a group of materials endangers the transition to low-carbon infrastructure. We define criticality as the combination of the potential for supply disruption and the exposure of

Graphite ionization vacuum gauge [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Triode gauge with electron source, electron collector, and positive ion collector made from either graphite or carbon material extends low-pressure ranges of existing gauges by changing only materials used in construction.

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.
